Default Which head porter

Hey guys. I am still undecided in which heads to go with. I plan on doing a 383 (not quite a daily driver but want to remain drivable) and am wondering with a decent budget which direction would you guys go? Here are some options I am looking at.

I used CNC Cylinder Heads, and I'm very happy with their performance.

You'd have to define "decent budget" and tell us what your ultimate goals are for the car...but I can tell you that Lloyd is consistently turning out great results on stock LT1 castings at a great price.

For another few hundred bucks, Bret Bauer will custom-grind a cam tailored to make the most of Lloyd's work. Tough to compete with for under $2K, IMO.

Lloyd Elliot has a lot of happy z28 customers and he uses Bret Bauer cam for proven packages and good prices.

Advanced Induction also has a great reputation but a little more pricey.

If you can wait a long time, Meaux Racing Heads also does awesome work. As well as Port Pros.

Speaking of waiting...if you haven't bought your castings yet, wait to see what these guys can do with the new AFR eliminator heads. I can hardly wait to see flow numbers off those. Unless of course AFR is full of crap about the potential.

Sorry on the budget question. I am lookong for a decent 500HP (I will be making a 383 with these heads). As For cost, from what I am seeing, for under 2500 you could buy heads from any of these listed.

My $.02 worth... AFR Eliminator heads @ $1400, then sell your stockers for $$$ and recoup some of your money. Probably cheaper than reconditioning, and porting yours. Most likely flow a whole lot better too.

I have Lloyd's heads/intake and a Bauer cam. I don't think you can beat the HP for the $.

I see you live in Victoria, BC. I am not sure if you have emissions testing there or not, but if you do, you are going to be hard pressed to get 500 hp and still pass emissions.

It is my understanding that a 383 with ported LT1 heads will make between 420 and 440 RWHP. This is with a large, but streetable, cam that WILL NOT pass emissions.

I just built a 396 with excellent flowing LT1 heads and a Bret Bauer emissions cam. I have not put it on the dyno yet but I am guessing it will be anywhere between 380 and 400 RWHP. Passing emissions is my biggest obstacle to making more power.

If you waited this long, I urge you to wait a little longer and get the Eliminator heads ported by Advanced Induction.

BTW my name is Jody too.

i currently have a whole top end setup from advanced induction (heads, ported intake manifold, cam) and i have to say that i'm thoroughly impressed of the quality of work and the customer service. i've been in close contact with Ron and he is truly a wonderful guy. he will take the time and ask you as many questions needed to find out what kind of setup you are looking for. i live in NY, but i have people to pass my car. so i can run whatever i wanted to. if you're looking for around 500hp at the crank, look into the 190cc CNC ported heads from AI with the ported intake and matched cam. if you need an emissions cam, that's easy for them also. i'm posting pictures soon of the 383 i'm building. so, stay tuned for that. good luck with your project.

Precision Porting made it happen for me. I only went with their stage two heads, and with a hot cam kit and tune, I went for 14.00 @ 99 to 12.79 @ 111. Bang for the buck, I doubt these guys can be beat.
