Air Pump
Has anyone had troubles with the air pump? My 1990 only has 40,000 miles on it, but the air pump makes a strange noise, as though there is a bearing going bad. I can't eliminate the pump because of the emission sniffing clean air program in Missouri. (a big rip-off) but makes the politicians happy. Is there an aftermarket air pump or should I check my local Chevy dealer?

I believe from the last few I read that you can still pass emmissions without this, since all it does is preheats the main cat.

mine sounds like a bearing noise also, been like that for 2 years.Since it only leaves the garage occasionally I'm not gonna worry about it. I do believe you can still pass a smog without it..unless there' a visual. I think it does a little more than just pre-heat the cat though.
