well the money is a relative issue meaning that once I decide whish why to go I will focus my money and efforts accordingly. Like everyone else none of this will happen fast, I need to "ease" into it but I am trying to develop a game plan.

I am wondering more about tire width than rim width (unless you are saying 9.5" wide tire).

Is anyone here running 4.10's on the street with a 6 spd? I am thinking it should be ok with 6th on the hwy but don't know for sure.

Regarding the width of the rim, what are you going to use it for? The 9.5" front wheel seems perfect to me unless you are going to road race or something. Otherwise you are just adding more rolling resistance which will only hurt acceleration from a stop.

The gears are not even the slightest issue in a 6-speed/LT4 combo IMO. I have had cars where you sacrifice some things to get the multiplication from a higher numeric rear end, but this car isn't one of them. I couldn't imagine the car WITHOUT a 4.10 rear in it. Even with that, 6th gear is barely lugging along at 75mph. Still good MPG possible, and makes all the gears a lot more fun. Laying down a long 1/2 and 2/3 patch even on 315 Nitto 555R DR's will make them your friend.

I am not disputing the 9.5" wide rim, I am wondering what size tire I should put on it. I am mainly using the car for street driving but I am definitly interested in laying down some rubber. I have no idea what rear gears are in it now but they seem pretty high.

Oops, my fault, I misread that on the tire width. I still run 275's (width) on the front which I think is pretty much standard issue. Not sure what going to a 285 or more on the front would do to handling or if it would cause any issue on the stock backspacing for the front wheel. I'm sure someone who has ran a bigger tire on the stock sized wheel will chime in.

I am and they are not bad at all with the 6 speed. 2,000 rpm in 6th gear = 79 mph. Just for comparison, my mother's stock geared C5 A4 is only 72 mph at 2,000 rpm.

I'm running 285s on 9.5 inch rims up front and I love it. I went from 255s and it handles much better now. No problems here.

I went from 255's to 245's

C5's use 245-45-17 up front.....that is what I did...

Depending on your objective, bigger isn't always better

I just went out without my glasses, but I believe that he is right, 285's on the front.

Yup, I got skinnies for straight line fun and 285s for curve carving. Best of both worlds now. Even with 285s up front, I get the same track times as I did with 255s. The Z06 wheels are light enough to negate any extra tire weight.

I was running some 18" 295s out back for a while and didn't have any problems with those either.

Default Do what you want....

Do what makes you happy! The only thing that is a bit scary on your wish list is the nitrous. Alot of folks have been sorry after blowing engines

They will hold 315s. Fronts are 17x9.5, backs are 18x10.5 Much lighter than C4 wheels too and helps brake cooling better.

I'm skeered of nitrous too, but I haven't needed it so far either. It's not easy getting that power to the ground and eventually something will mess up and eat the motor if preventative maintenance isn't done. If I drove on the hwy a lot, I could see needing more power.

That's what I'm running on mine right now. I went to 315's on the rears recently & moved my 285's to the front. Realistically though, I plan to go w/ 275's up front when these (285's) wear out. A 285/40/17 is actually just a tad taller than a 315/35/17 and although I can't really see the difference, I don't want my fronts taller than my rears.

Early C4's had the 275's on the front, on 9.5" wheels. The later C4's came with 255's on a 8.5" wheel, to improve tracking. Draw you own conclusions.

In 1996(LT4) the standard combo was 255-45's up front and 285-40's in the rear. With the upgraded suspension 275-40's were on all four. Grand Sports had larger tires.

Actually, that is an old pic before I lowered it. Always liked the pic so I kept it as my sig pic. I bought the lowering kit from MAD & lowered the front & rear. I have detailed lowering instructions...shoot me a pm if you're interested.

Next on my mod list are the 4.10 gears...should have done them sooner but it's a little here...a little there.

Jeff
