Default full time fan

I have a 95 LT1 that runs fine in normal traffic. Idling in a line-up the temp goes pretty high 215-230 and then the fans come on.

I 'm thinking of hooking up my fan so it runs full time. I just don't like that 230 degrees idea! I just had the cooling system flushed and new gelly put in.

I would appreciate hearing the pros and cons of this idea of a full time fan.
Thanks to all

......i have an 88. i purchased a kit from a local vette shop that had everything to set up my car to automatically turn on it's 2 fans at 180 degrees. it gave me the option of have either one or both turn on and i chose both. while it tends to be a bit noisier then one fan being on, i prefer it to circulate a larger quantity of air. some say the car is built to run hot but, the factory temps are too high for me to appreciate. others will say that it will accelerate the wearing out of the fans. my preferences are as above with the two fans on all the time AFTER reaching operating temp. (you can also use a switch to turn the fans on whenever you want).

That's perfetly normal for a LT1. As long as the temps don't continue to climb after the second fan turns on, the system is operating normally.

If you are insistant on dropping the temps at which the fans turn on, purchase a reprogrammed chip for your ECU.

You could mess with the ECU for fan switch temps, or bypass the whole ECU and wire them up to an independant temp switch. Painless makes a nice kit comees with the thermostat, relay, all the wiring you need to get the fans going. Come with two temp ranges.

Don't know about 95's but i'm with you on the very high temp thing .
On my 85 i got a switch ( under the dash ) wired into the relay so i can turn the fan on whenever i want . ( just got to remember to switch it off when i leave the car )
Maybe an option for you .
I asked my mechanic about having it on permanently and he said it would burn out the fan motor/bearing .

This is very simple, all you have to do is cut the grounding wire to the relay on the drivers side of the radiator (one fan relay has black with a blue stripe and the other is black with green stripe ), and run the relay side of this wire to a ground on the chassis. You can do both wires and both fans will come on whenever you turn the key.
If done this way, the ECM will not throw any codes, at least not on my 92.
By the way the temps you are seeing are normal for the LT1.

Default Full time fan on--or----

My temps were like yours/now on the highway--180 and in heavy traffic--195 and once at 201 for a few moments.
To bring down your temperture:
New radiator cap. -----$6.00
Full radiator & engine flush. -----No cost.
New radiator hoses. -------$26.00
Big Mouth Air Dam. -------$105.00
Complete flush 50/50 w/Dex Cool and Distilled water. -----$15.00
New 160 degree thermostat. ----$23.00
Mobil 1 5W30 synthetic oil & K & N filter. ----$29.00
Pulled out the radiator and did a complete cleaning. ---No cost.
To be candid, it runs 180 probably 95% of the time and a total cost of $204.00.
