I've got an early start to this winters project.....383/219/AFR 190's....blah, blah, blah. Man is there a lot of crap to peel away. I will have the boys over next weeknd to help pull the motor. All I have left is to do is unbolt the converter to the flexplate, drop the driveshaft, and disconnect the tranny to the block.
While the block is getting machined and the rotating assembly put together I'll be spending a fair amount of time cleaning up the mess in the engine bay. I thought my motor/bay was fairly clean until I got to this point.
Like any good first time engine puller....everything is bagged and tagged
Not totally sure but wouldn't that be covered in the first pic? Looks like beer cady in blue in the lower left corner... That is meticulous.
No wonder my garage looks like a missle test center...the closest i ever got to organized is three coffee-cans labeled engine bolts, suspension bolts & interior bolts.
Nice work. I am putting mine back together. I bagged/labeled all bolts which has made the task go very well. It is nice to get everything clean. Once done I plan to keep it that way.
Too late to remind you now but I hope you took pictures as you took it apart. Even holding a tagged part in your hand, two months from now you'll be going how the H**L does this piece go on.? Been there, done that!!
Nice project, but why didn't you just pull the motor instead of tearing it down to the short block ?
Did the original motor let go ?

Hey Vic
No, she was running just fine(138K on the clock) I pulled the heads because I wanted to make sure I disconnected everything back there. It's a tight as a gnats azz back there. Looks like i will be able to get at some of the tranny to block bolts from the top now that the heads and intake are off.
