Hello, here is a ´91 cpe with the stock bose stereo with cd player. I have fixed the amplifiers to the rear speakers (both left and right) but when I installed them the right speaker worked just fine, but the left amp (one of two 1000uf capacitors) just blew up in my face. Is this a short in a cable somewhere and if yes, how do I test the wires (wich values should I get with the stereo on/off? Tried two different amps (new cap.s) both blew up.
This should not be happening. A short would not cause this. The caps are right across the 12 volt input. What would is reverse polarity. If you did work on it, check and make sure that the caps are installed correctly in regard to polarity. And if new amps are popping, check to make sure that the voltage coming in is the correct polarity. I think (from memory) the red or orange wire is +12 and obviously the black is ground. Make sure the ground on the circuit cards are ground on the chassis.
I would also explore the possibility of the new caps being defective or not marked correctly, or the voltage rating on the cap is not high enough.
I would think the car wiring should be OK.
You can connect the amp externally on a table top with a stand alone 12 volt source to check out the amp.
