Default 96 SYS message

my battery went dead, so I hooked up a charger. This charger has the 100 amp car start feature. Started the car, and I charged the battery as well.

Now I get the SYS message intermittently when I start the motor. The car starts and runs fine. The battery seems ok, but the stupid message appears every so ofter now.

Did I mess something up with the battery charger??

Typically this happens with a weak battery or a failing alternator. You can pull the CCM codes and you'll probably find a bunch of nusiance codes associated with the IP dimming circuit.

Did the battery die due to something you did? If so just disconnect the battery terminal for a few minutes to reset and eliminate the SYS. If not that's what it's trying to tell you generally-need a new battery.

It seemed to go away by itself. Maybe the battery recharged enough from driving. ... ??

My sys did the same thing flashed now and then a few weeks later battery went dead barely turned engine over. Replaced with new Battery never had it happen again that was 2 years ago probably had a dead cell most likely your battery is on its last leg might last couple more weeks like mine did after the once in a while flashing started....

I agree it is probably a battery problem. If battery is not in really good shape, this indication will happen. If the car sits for a day or two and exhibits any symptoms of not turning over at a good rate or any weak battery symptoms, just get a new battery. I don’t think the charger hurt the battery or car and the battery probably has a bad cell or two.

I never mess around with batteries especially in these cars. The computers and systems need a good battery for things to work properly. If it even looks like it might be bad I just like to change it.

In a hot climate, anything over 2-3 years and your ready for a battery regardless or its guarantee.
