Default What color wires??

On my 86 I have the resistors to do the Ignition bypass thing. Question---- are the two wires coming down the column from the switch very small and YELLOW?? At the end of the column, they go into a conector. From there one is YELLOW, the other is BROWN. Is this right or wrong. Thanks--Dave

If the wire you are talking about disconnects in the middle, then yes, that is the VATS wire. You say you have the resistors - is this a resistor you bought at Radio Shack or did you buy the module from a locksmith? If you buy the module from a locksmith, it'll just plug into the wire once you disconnect it. The purchased module is the recommended method. Attempting to solder in a $.25 resistor is NOT recommended as you can damage the resistor faster than you can say spit. Rob your piggy bank and spend the $25 for the module from a locksmith (this way it can be easily reversed as well).

I have heard they are yellow, but my schematic says both black till connector, then yellow and brown from connector to VATS module.
I can't offer any visual info since i haven't messed with that part, yet

Thanks All2Kool and Agent 86. In taking off the column cover and the plactic cover I could only follow the 2 small YELLOW wires half way up. They are incased in a BLACK cover by them-selfs. I am taking in all the advice. Thanks again. Dave

Go to a locksmith, they will test your key and be able to sell you a module to disable VATS. Remove the underdash panel on the driver side. You will easily spot a two-wire grouping, I believe yellow and white, just to the right of the steering column. You will notice that it disconnects in the middle. Disconnect it, insert the module you got from the locksmith (into the wire going towards the firewall). Voila, VATS is now disabled. The module will cost you $25 - and your car will never not start because of VATS. It'll actually take longer to remove the underdash panel than it will to locate the wire and insert the module
