Default Accel Injectors

Here's my experience with Accel Injectors (stock), one of which I've seen posted before: After installing and pressurizing system, injector at #6 leaked externally at fuel rail. Removed, and as I've seen posted in the past, a small piece of plastic (flashing?) was found above the o-ring. Removed all injectors and found this plastic on 3 of the 8 injectors which I removed. Reinstalled - no more leaks. Put car back together and went for a brief test drive. All is fine. Waited an hour and went for another drive. Lasted a mile before engine began to run horribly. Scan was normal. Hooked up pressure guage. Pressure would not hold. Started removing plugs. #7 saturated with fuel. Disassembled until I could hold rail and injectors above manifold. Pressurizied system. Fuel flowed through #7 injector like water through a hose! Checked resistance across #7 and its the same (15.4 ohms) as all the others. Harness connectors are good and each flashes a test light. This injector was simply stuck open! Backflushed the injector with compressed air and it's closed now. However, I'm extremely reluctant to use these injectors. This system was clean prior to reassembly and considering that I've had to tear apart the upper half of the motor twice as well as siphon out the pint or so of fuel sitting in the manifold, I don't think they're worth the $225. If anyone has any hints, thoughts, flames or what have you as to what may have caused this problem (other than poor quality), I'd appreciate hearing about it. Otherwise, these puppys are going back!

I posted a message a while back about my Accel's leaking due to this "flash", but other than that, mine have worked fine. Hope your problematic injector won't fail again. At least we are getting pretty good at removing the upper half of our tpi!!

Good luck,

I have to admit, I have never been excited about the quality of Acell's products. I changed my injectors last winter, and although they were more money, I bought them from RC Engineering. They were $63 each. But I got stainless internals, 1 msec rise time, and they were balanced within 0.3%. Very nice quality. My decision was based partly on the amount of work it is to change out the injectors. Summer is short here, and I don't want to have my car down at all during the summer. This isn't a flame, but I would try to get your money back on the set and look elsewhere. In my opinion, problems like this are inexcusable on the part of a manufacturer.

I installed a set of Accel injectors in my 90 a couple of months ago. It has never run better...Before I purchased the Accel injectors I did some research and talked to some very knowledgeable mechanics. All the feedback I received was positive...

These were stock (21lbs is how Accel rates them) from a vendor that has been recommended on this Forum (and until I talk to him, there's no need to mention any names!) As a side note, after backflushing the offending injector with compressed air, I hooked it back up and then using my injector tester (as a further test that it wasn't in the harness connector), I pulsed it a couple of times. It held twice and then stuck draining the fuel rail (only this time I had a cup underneath the injector so I didn't have to suck any more fuel out of the intake!)

Spoke to the vendor, Rich at Cruzin Performance. I really didn't expect any problem. He advised that he had one other complaint about Accel Injectors leaking (24lb as opposed to 21lb) and when they were returned, he flow tested them at twice the flow rate (90 lbs), but couldn't get them to leak. He promised to flow test a new injector and send it to me Priority Mail. Guess, I'll give it one more try. I'm going to return the bad one to him and let him test/disassemble it to find out why it failed. Notably, this is the same port (#7) which had an odd looking Multec Injector. I say odd looking because when you look straight into the inlet of the Multec injector it's square instead of round (The rubber o-ring or screen maybe, this isn't the external o-ring that seals the injector to the fuel rail) pressed into the inlet has inside dimensions which are perfectly square rather than round)! I asked Rich about that (as well as a couple of Chevy parts guys) and he said he's never seen such a thing, so I'm going to send that one to him also to verify that there isn't something else going on here.
