I’m having a strange electrical problem with my ’93 coupe, about 100k miles; I wanted to see if any of the rest of yall had seen this before. The car has always been squirrelly about having the battery run down. This can easily happen if a door is unintentionally left ajar. Come back the next day. Dead battery. That’s a design flaw, in my opinion.
After a fresh, charged battery is reconnected, the system goes weird. It thinks it’s being stolen! The horn blows. All the lights flash. The fix is a reset button; I believe is after market mod. That resets everything. Key switch must be ON for this to work.
I’m careful to fully shut all doors before putting her away!
As strange as that sounds. Its normal behavior
Now what is happening is the battery goes dead after about a day of sitting in the garage. This is a fairly new 8 year battery that will stay charged if I pull one post. So I assume a short, or otherwise something that drains on the battery down to zero. When I connect a charge battery back up, it pops the electric rear glass hatch, and continues to energize the lock. (click-click) until the reset described above is done. Also the interior light do not want to go out. After several re-closings of the door, the light goes out. Could cooler weather cause this? Have you ever seen this before? I searched the archives but couldn’t find anything. Thank you in advance for your comments.
Thanks for the help. I have a digital VOM, although I have never used it to measure DC current. It should help. The latest development is that the hatch silonoid clicks constantly now. This will be the first fuse to pull. I'm not sure were to start to repair this. I wonder if the on board "brain" module is going south.

If you have a Factory Service Manual, head for the troubleshooting section. The alarm system monitors hatch open conditions. When it senses hatch open and no key has been used to open doors, it will set off the alarm. The current check will help determine if there is excessive current flow in the "at rest" condition. Make sure you remove the key when conducting these tests.

Are you saying an aftermarket security system is also installed?
If so, this is probably going to make it much harder to diagnose.
You are so right, Tom. I wish I knew what was the aftermarket alarm system, and what is not. I would remove it. Right now I am afraid to remove anything that may be important to the operation.
Thanks for your comments
Since it has an aftermarket security system piggy-backed on the original, my guess is poor connections in the wiring to the aftermarket security system or bad relays in that security system.
