Default 383 stealth ram dyno results

I dyno'd the 383 today.
The baseline was 316hp/328tq. I ran 12.16@112 setup this way.
After 17 runs on the dyno and some tuning we got it to 341hp/353tq.
The 341 is at 5500rpm. Its still a little leaner than I'd like it though,
13.75:1 above 5000rpm.
I should break into the 11's with it now!

Cheers,
John

I think I'd take a little less hp a little more margin for error on the AFR.
Before you went to WOT on the dyno, were the BLMs at 128 or less or were you running O/L?

WOW! 13.5.1 A/F ratio! Thats lean at WOT. Usually a leaner engine makes better response and power which is why you probobly gained 25hp. You smooth it out to 13.0 and lower you'll probobly gain more power.

Thats a good ET/mph for a mere 316rwhp! Nice

Hi John,
where are you sampling the gasses?
Have you read the plugs?

Vic89,
To gain the h.p. we did three things:
1. Adjusted fuel pressure from 51psi to 58psi. (this was the most benefit)
2. Varied total timing from 34 to 40 deg (38 total made the most power).
3. Played with mph that torque convertor locked to minimze loading down the motor too quickly. This actually did make some difference.

Domenic,
I am running open loop with a Moates Ostrich Emulator.

SHINOBI-X,
Yes 13.5-13.75 is too lean for my liking also. For some reason the wot afr wasn't making a big difference on the wideband when adjusting it using AFRtuner. I had to resort to raising the fuel pressure from 51 psi to 58psi to get it there. I will look into this further because the cruising afr is now way off and I really want around 12.8. Yes I was very happy with the 1/4 mile times. My goal is high 11's on motor. I think it should be achievable.

Chucks88,
Heads are Trickflow Duttweiller (195's) 2.02/1.60 with 64cc.
The Camshaft is a Comp Cams xtreme roller .503/.510 lift with 1.5 rockers. Duration @.050 is 224/230.

Thanks,
John

Hey Paul,

Its been a long time. The afr during the dyno runs was at the tail pipe. I do have a LM-1 wideband that I run all of the time. It is located in the pass side collector. Unfortunately as I was preparing for the dyno runs today I blew the fuse to the cigarette lighter that powers it so I couldn't compare theirs to mine. Mine was out of commission for all of the dyno runs. Damn the bad luck! I will say that I did record the two 1/4 mi passes that I made last saturday and my LM-1 recorded extremely lean conditions above 4800 RPM. It ramped from 13.0 at 4800 to 15.8 at 6000. That was part of the reason that I only made 2 passes.
I haven't done plug checks but I may need to at the next rack visit. I am not too keen on removing the plugs from a hot aluminum cylinder head though. Can you say stripped threads!

Cheers,
John

I though about larger injectors but with skidownit and corkvette1's success with the 24lbers I don't know if thats the answer.

Very very nice numbers for a 316 Rhp and u said 38 timing made most power but if u disconnect EST cable than how much timing?.
Did u hooked up laptop and take for a spin and observe BLM #'s both at idle and while driving, check the BLM readings while u r approaching a signal light or slowing down ? also what BLM's while u cruise at 75-80 mph on hwy cruise. Again thanks for sharing and congrads for those good numbers.

sami85L98,
I am running open loop so the blm's are locked at 128 always.

88BlackZ-51,
I will try to post the dyno graph today. I ddin't get a hard copy. They gave me a CD with all of the runs on it so I have to figure out how to post it electronically.

Thanks LD85, I'm still plugging for 360hp +@ the wheels. That was my goal. I'll keep you posted.

John,

Is that with headers, high flow cat and a nice flowing exhaust system?

Interesting that the increase in tq and hp are almost directly related to the AFR change. Still need to drop AFR in the upper rpm ranges. I have been tuning my 84 Xfire and have found an increase of 2-3mph by richening WOT AFR from 12.8 to 12.2.
