my rear window defroster is not working ....the light on the dash comes on but will not defrost the window....the wires are pluged in on the window but will not work...its a 95 auto...
Check at the window w/ volt meter & see if your really getting power back there. I had one of the wires pop off the glass. A real bugger to fix as the glass is a giant heat soak when trying to solder.

My one wire (driver's side) has come lose at least twice over the last five years or so. I've re-soldered and it has held, but there is very little wire to work with and somewhat difficult to do with the window open. And these wires are so easy to hit or get caught when going in and out of the cargo area. I've not seen any after market solutions are there any out there?
Any suggestions, on the soldering techique and/or ideas to make connection more permanent?

Checking the rear window, you realize that you broke off one of the electrical tabs for the defogger. Plus, one of the grid lines is scratched.
You can fix both of these problems yourself for less than $15.
BOTH REPARS IN ONE KIT
Most auto parts stores stock rear window defogger repair kits. The two most popular are the Permatex Complete Rear Window Defogger Repair Kit No. 09117 and the Syon Rear Defogger Repair Kit No. 38-8434.
If you only need to repair the tabs, buy the Loctite Rear Window Defogger Tab Adheasive No. 21351.
Note:
For the article they used the more widely available Permatex kit. The repair uses conductive paint and epoxies. Soldering is strongly discuraged.
Mine works, but I don't use it since it gets so hot it melted the plastic covers off the contacts.
I haven't had a chance to figure out what's going on.
