Does anyone have a set of Melrose headers (long tube of course) on a non-stock LT1/LT4, especially an engine with none stock heads. Reason I ask is that I intend to drop in a 383 with AFR heads at some point and I don't want to redo the exhaust at that time. Also I've read that spark plugs are easier to change with TPiS headers, is this the case with the Melrose headers.
FYI: If I get them I'll be getting them without emissions or cats.
Anyone!?
Do you have the entire exhaust or just the headers?
Do you have the emissons tubes on the headers?
How does the coating (Jet Hot I think) hold up over time?
Anything else you can tell me about buying or installing them?
I have the entire system. The coating on the headers is done really nice but the car isn't DD so I can't say to it's over all durability. I don't have emissions tubes.I have the whole system, it installs well but sits to close to the drivers seat belt bolt and vibrates sometimes. The statement that it bolts to factory mufflers is crap. I had to mod mine to work on my 87 and we had to mod my dad's for them to work on his 88. The system is very well thought out and well constructed. I installed mine on the garage floor with jackstands. Removal of stock system and install of this system with the headers was about an 8 hour job. We did my dad's using his lift and it was much easier.
Overall it was a positive experince. The only neg. was ZERO tech support and the rear needing modded.
