Default 85 vette electrical problems

well my vette is in pretty rough shape, my Dad gave it to me and so now I'm tryin to get her in tip top shape, the problem is im a moron with cars lol. I figure ill learn with her though. although im sure the engine has alot of problems i plan on working on that later. right now my real problem is that the back trunk lights stay on no matter what and about 50% of the time the other lights in the inside that do work(the left side door and the left floorboard area light) want turn off either, so basically right now i have the fuse pulled that runs all these things. My step Dad knows a little bit and told me that it was probrally a bad ground(i dont really know what that means), we took apart the back trunk area and unplugged where the wires met and nothing changed so where do i go from here??? wheres the bad ground gonna be?? thanks for helping out a noob thats new to the corvette family.even without a workin dash and no inside lights she will fly

When you say "trunk" lights, do you mean the lights right behind you head on the post between the window and the back hatch window? If so, there is a swich that is located at the rear of the hatch that turns these lights on when the hatch is open. The long round rod on the window hits this switch and turns off the lights by depressing the switch. You have have broken the fitting that holds the switch in place, therefore the rod never turns off the lights.

It could be a bad pin switch in the doors or hatch, but the problem is probably the courtesy light delay timer.
Welcome aboard

The cargo lights (in the hatch) are turned on by the hatch switch, the inst panel switch or either door switch.

The cabin lights come on with the inst panel switch or either door switch.

The interior lights run through the dome light relay timer, as mentioned.

So any of the switches or several of them not opening could keep the lights on, as could a problem with the dome light relay timer.
