Default Speedometer after gear change

Okay, I never changed a gear in a corvette, only in mustangs... After changing from a stock 3.07 to a SLP 3.73 gear, what do I need to do to get the speedometer to work correctly. On fords, it was a small gear change in the transmission. Can anyone help.

you can either change the speedo gears or get the following :
PART# 35073 Speedometer Calibrator $169.99 EA. from ecklers.

it corrects your speedometer electronically. seen it used in corvette fever article.

still checking w/ slp for you; waiting for call back

Here is what you'll need to do it mechanically with your auto trans and the prices (our price at least).:

15 tooth drive gear
P/N 8642620 - $3.00

45 tooth driven gear
P/N 25513052 - $5.68

Sensor/Sleeve
P/N 10456089 - $20.74

The sleeve has to be replaced in order to lash the gears correctly. Your original won't work. You may also elect to replace any seals you feel necessary since you'll have the tailshaft housing off the trans. -Jeff

I was told that in 1991, Chevy went away from the gear drive and moved to electronic speedo. I have a LPE transmission that I will be putting in this winter, so if anyone can varify that the 1991, use a gear drive, that will be a great help.

Parts for all years are on my web site. 91 is the same as my 90, gear driven VSS. The VSS generates a signal for the computer so that there is only wires running from the transmission.

Trust 18carfan. He knows GM Parts. He sent me the correct ones for my change out. 94 was the first year for the electronic sensor type, (that didnt use gears) The trouble with the signal conversion box is 1. they say dont use it with Anti-Lock brakes, 2. its so expensive. ($169.00 verses $30.00 for the gear change.) Get the parts lined up before you tear the car apart. You have to pull the tailshaft off of the transmission to change the drive gear. Its 4 bolts while the car is apart. If you do it latter. that means take out support beam, driveshaft, support transmission etc to change it. Good luck
