alarm / start problems
I have a 91, auto L98 thats a beauty, but right now its got a starting problem that I dont know how to fix. I think I may have left an interior light on over night and it drained my battery dead. So, upon trying to jump start the battery, as it appeared the battery was dead, after a few minutes it appears that the battery began to get enough power ( all the gauges and accesories powered up) but now it seems no power is getting to the starter. Theres NO "click click" as if the starter is trying to start. I get a few flashes in the security light on the dash, and I hear a click click click coming from under the dash. The original alarm in the car has never seemed to work right, further to make me worry, this car had an after market alarm on it that never functioned right when I bought this used over a year ago. I'm hoping I can reset the original alarm, but I dont know how to do that, can someone tell me how to do that? Probably some reset procedure I need.
I dont have the owners manual for this, it probably would tell me how to do such things. I'd REALLY appreciate anyone telling me how to fix this.Much thanks,
Don
One thing for sure, is that everything else had enough power (after jumping the battery to another battery) to raise and light up the headlights, crank up the radio, windows etc. However not even a budge at the starter. I've been trying to just jump start with another car battery. However, I hear a definate TIC TOC TIC TOC from under my dash board area, that corresponds to the flashing security light on the dash that runs for about 20 seconds everytime I try turning over the ignition with the key. I know it still could be the Battery, and it could be the starter, but that TIC TOC from under the dash is really making me think it could be from under there. I did hear my security system sound off one time when doing some other electrical work about 6 months ago, so Im concerned that the security could be disabling the electrical to the starter, Ive heard that the alarm could do that, I think. Any thoughts on this? Is There a way to reset the system and get it out of that mode, if thats whats going on? I will follow up with checking the charge at that Batt as well of course.
Again, Thanks for your help so far,
Don
