I think it's time to get a scan tool and I'm leaning toward a PC-based one (unless someone shows me better value in a HW based tool).
I've read a few comments on this forum about the TurboLink product and the Ease Software product. Which do you recommend, even if it's not one of these? I will use it strictly for diagnostics, not to do fancy programming or PROM'ing.
I am using a laptop and Tunerpro RT. I purchased the ALDL cable and USB converter from moates.net. Nice guy to talk too and he is a forum member, but not much active time.
I have both, and both are very good. The TTS has some advantages as in changing the visible parameters easier and a little overall better readability. The RT is the only one I can use for tuning, and will allow almost unlimited time for recording sesions weras the TTS only will give me about 4 minutes. Both have pro's and cons, but both have been extremely reliable for me.

I wonder about the 4 minutes. I have run 30 minute datalogs with Datamaster on my 87.

Yeah , the guys at TTS told me some windows OS systems (xp)will only allow so much time and it is not the program. I have not been able to figure out how to modify/configure to gain time. But I do like the screen layout visually better than the RT. I was using the emulater almost all of the time for real time tuning, but now that I have the tune in closed loop pretty much nailed (128 in all driving in closed loop)I'd like to be using the TTS more often now. any ideas Spankyellow feel free??

I use an earlier version of TTS which is version 3.4.1 and with XP I have unlimited recording time.

Interesting. I noticed the same problem, but the amount of time it would run could be much less than 4 minutes sometimes. Good info.

Did you do anything in particular for configuration in the laptop itself (folders etc.)? In the TTS program itself what did you do for recording speeds etc.?
I use TTS Datamaster 3.5.1 and have had no probs recording longer than 4 minutes. I usually have it record the whole time when I'm checking the car out, usually ~20-30 minutes and never had a problem.
One nice thing about HW is that it's small. Lugging the laptop, cables, and power invertor out to the car can be a pain. But generally the recording abilities of HW devices are much smaller too. If you want copious data vs ease of use, get a laptop, cable, and software. If you just want something quick and easy to see a parameter or two, maybe a HW device is the way to go.
Mine is 3.5.1 version also and it will only show/playback a smalll amount of recordied data (approx. 4min.). It never shows "recording stopped", just only so much data wil be in that file on playback. I am guessing I must be missing something .....all ideas welcome TIA

I looked through the Datamaster program and could not find any trick settings. I was thinking they may have some info on the website to look at.
According to the manual, you should be able to record 16000 files. That should take at least a 1/2 hour.
Thanks Doug,
The only thing I can think of is that maybe if I create a folder outside of "testdata" may resolve this, but I'm going to call and to talk to the tech. there today ....again. He did tell me of this type of issue but maybe he can give some additional info. I can't see what I could be misssing here, but I will post back after I call later hopefully with some info that can help others with the same problem. The weirdest thing here is that the T.pro RT will record as long as I keep the car running. When I first used that program I didn't know that and I ended up with a recording sesion that was about an hour and a half. Mick
*UPDATE*
Talked to the guys at TTS. and they suggested to look at my power configuaraions. The only problem is I don't know were I had them set before, as I recently (a week ago) had a O.S. crash and had to re-boot everything (including OS) back up.
However, it is quite possible that I had screen saver or stand-by or hibernate etc. set to 4 min. which might make sense. I'll do a datlog/recording tommorrow when I warm it up and see what happens.
TunerPro does have some issues with the 90/91 digital dash vettes. mseven was lucky enough to get conneted once or twice.
That said, I've been working on a new scanning/logging app called ScannerPro. It is completely free. It's still very much in alpha/beta form. Its features will eventually be integrated into TunerPro.
What I'd like is to see is one of the more savvy forum members here to pull down ScannerPro and create a definition for the 90/91 vettes. The download has a 90/91 F-body definition. All one would need to do is add/modify a connection macro to send out the silence comms command, followed up by a mode 1 data dump. That would silence the CCM and allow ScannerPro to connect full-time to the ALDL data.

It's good to see that you have taken an interest and the time to post .
I have had great success with your software (Tuner Pro RT) in combination with Moates APU-1, although I didn't know I was getting that lucky to record.
I would be very interested in working with scanner pro........however I don't think I'm savvy enough to build definitions, hopefully some will chime in here.......
