How do you know if your chip has been retuned or replaced with a performance one? I am asking because my computer is not bolted in to the car and just rests up in the spot it belongs. I was just wondering how to tell if someone before me has done something to the car. I am in the process of installing a supercharger and they are specific about using your stock chip so to avoid detonation due to the advanced spark curve of an aftermarket chip. Just FYI I have owned the car for about 9.5 years so what was availible back then.
Thanks.
Well I did pull it apart before posting and it is a Delco part but that doesn't rule out it being changed does it? You can change these, as in burn new info on them, correct?
If the chip says AC Delco, i would say it's stock. It's my understanding that the chips in these calpaks are a pain to remove and a piggy back setup is usually the answer.
Usually if you take the chip out, if its an aftermarket chip it will have a label from the vendor. Most people will use a chip from a commercial vendor such as Hypertech or Jet, both will have a label that will make it pretty obvious. A tuner may have reprogrammed the original chip, and if that is the case, it may not be so obvious, I usually apply a sticker to the chip that ID's it in some way so that I know what is in the chip. It maybe meaningless to someone else but that is just how I do it.

I had a tuned chip in my 86 when I bought it. It was the stock chip that had been tuned and not a piggyback. The place that tuned it placed a label on it.
