Default Fuel Pressure Problem

I've suddenly lost pressure on my fuel rail...I've changed the filter, and checked the pump flow, and all seems good. Plenty of pressure from the pump, plenty of pressure to the filter, and plenty of pressure at the inlet of the rail, but I get no pressure in the rail...bad regulator???, checked the vacuum hose at the regulator, and no fuel there...any ideas??

Cheers,
Michael

Default fuel

if the regulator diaphragm has a tear in it, the fuel will be bypassing 100%. try taking the return line loose, add a length of hose, and pointing it in a bucket. if it's the regulator, the full fuel volume from the pump will be evident.
then try plugging the line, and checking your fuel pressure again. if it's up, it is the regulator.

oh, and go get new "o" rings for the fuel line before you separate them, a used o ring will only create a car fire at some point

First try clamping the rubber section of the return line under the filler door.

If pressure goes to normal it's the FPR, if not the pump.

Check the FPR vac for signs of raw fuel.

Checked with gauge at schrader valve....afraid valve might be stopped up, removed core, and still no pressure....

I don't understand how you can have pressure at inlet of rail and none at shrader valve.

Sorry, missed where you already stated you checked this. I would remove the FPR and either intall new guts or replace.

found the problem...long story short, pulled the pump, and found a piece of electrical tape in the bottom of the tank...it was getting sucked up against the sock, causing the sock to collapse, cutting the flow to almost nothing...It would pump when I opened the lines, but once it came against any pressure, the sock would get sucked shut.....don't ask me where the electrical tape came from, I've had the car for 6 years, and have never been in the tank before....

Cheers,
Michael

Hmmmm, wonder what else might be in there? That is a unusual problem. Would have never guessed it.

I sure hope you replaced the sock. A piece of tape shouldn't cause the sock to collapse unless the pores of sock are really plugged up.

Michael: Good work and I would not have guessed that root cause of your problem in a million years. One just does not consider having something like this in the gas tank
