Hello everybody, I have 1988 L98 that has a broken green wire coming from the coolant temperature sensor that goes to the digital display not the one for the ECM. I can see the end of the wire coming out of the sensor connector but I can't find were the other end of the wire is. Which side of the engine did the wire go to so that the signal gets to the display. Has anyone had to repair this wire before? Thanks for any help you can send my way...
Differences over the years.
On my '87 comes out of wiring loom by Alt wiring
Hmmm, that sounds like the green wire that goes to the low coolant sensor in the radiator. On my 86 that wire comes out of the wire loom that goes to the main fan. Runs right by/under the alternator.
On my 86E, the coolant temp sender in the right cylinder head between #6 and #8 spark plugs...that green wire goes down and behind the engine into the firewall to the dash cluster. Not sure if it's the harness behind the distrubitor or the one by the battery. I think battery side. To tight to get a pic there.
There is also another green wire that goes to the EGR temp sensor that's in the cross pipe between the intake manifold and exhaust manifold. That green wire goes into the wire harness behind the distubitor.
Those are not the only green wires. Lots of green wires.
Oh, and there are differences in the wiring over the years. So rodj, you could be correct, but not sure why that wire would be at the front of the engine also.
Yes! your picture is exactly the sensor I am talking about and I could see where the wire goes down under the engine about six inches and that is where it is broken. So from that point where did the wire continue to. Thanks for you picture...

That wire should be in the harness by your alt. It runs the aux. fan though not the temp on the dash.
Clarification:
the green wire at the left front of the engine runs the aux fan.
the green wire at the right rear of the engine is for the gauge.
The green wire at the front of the intake goes to the computer.
The green wire at the right front of the engine coming out of the harness on the frame by the back r/h of the radiator goes to the low coolant sensor.
the green wire for the gauge goes to the engine harness and meets with the wires in the plastic convoluted tubing coming from the left side of the car, and goes through the firewall connector that has the heat sensitive goo that is the firewall seal. It's where the plastic vacuum tubing goes through the firewall.

You are right! I was able to find the wire comng from the loom with wiring going to the starter also. I had to peal away some of the loom to see where the other broken end of the wire was. Thanks to everyone for all their input on this one.
