I am replacing all the rear bushings on my 92 Coupe. Finished everything but the differential carrier bushings. Can this be done while still on the car ? Anywhere you can rent the removal/install tool that they show in the FSM ? If anyone has any instructions please post or IM.
I just did the drivers side this weekend, starting the passenger next. It was and I'm sure will be a B*&#h. What finally ended up working for me was 2 pipe flanges one on each side with a 1/2 inch bolt through the center and a 500fp impact gun. If anyone has a better way I would love to hear it before doing the other side.
After removing the bolt, do you jack the car you so you can get to the bushing ?
Thanks,
Al

Um, did you remember to remove the old steel tube that surrounded the original bushings? On my 84 the original bushing was surrounded by a press-fit steel insert into the batwing. The new bushings don't use it so you have to press it out or else they won't fit. After I pressed it out the new bushings slid right in with a little grease and my bare hands. Maybe they changed that for the later vettes. My bushing kit had a reminder about it next to the diff bushings on the packing list.
I'll ask my question again. Do you have to remove the bat wing to replace the bushings or can you reasonably do is without removing the bat wing ? And if so once you remove the bolt do you just jack up the car so you can get to the bushings.

That would explain why it was sush a pain, I thought that stayed. Well I have one side that has it and will do the other side without I guess.

Did mine with it still in the car. I removed the sway bar don't know if you have to but I was doing those bushings anyway and just didn't put it back in. Took the spring loose from the end I was working on and let it drop, slowly with the jack under it and a block of wood so I would not damage the spring. Then again with the jack supporting took the bolt from that side of the bat wing and let it drop enough so I could force the old bushing out and the new one in. Jack it back up and bolt it all together.
