I just put new tires on my 96 LT4. This car had run flats on it originally and came with the LTPWS which worked fine. I did not care for the run flats, so I put on normal tires (BFG KDW) which I like a lot better. But now my "Service LTPWS" light is on which probably means that the tire guys messed up a sensor.
Two questions: Does anyone know how to turn off that warning light without messing up anything else? Given that a wheels sensor is now bad, how do you figure out which one it is?
The low tire pressure module is a stand alone module. It ties into the PCM, but just on the diag circuit. It sets the code and turns on the lite by itself, completely independent of the PCM. Take it to someone who has a tech2, so they can diag it. first tho, check the tire pressure, if one is low, pump it up and drive it to reset the system.
The FSM has a diagnosis to figure out which sensor is bad. If you just want to disable the light all you have to do is take the DIC apart and remove the bulb. That's what I did.
Thanks for the replies. I do have a jack, spare, etc. I'll check the pressure again, but I think its OK. The Chev dealer says it can be reset assuming the sensors are OK. We'll see.
My "service ltpws" comes on all the time. But its still operational. I have a slow leaker and it catches it every time. I would remove the DIC cover and just put electric tape over the cubical face the light is setting in. I got it on my "To Do List". Does the light need to be place to complete a circuit ? I thought so. Chime in if I'm wrong.
I'd take a look at how it works first - latest designs (at least everything I've seen from 2000 and up) have an ABS/Traction Control Interface. If that's true for the '96, I'd fix it, particularly if a tire jockey broke it.
