U Joints

Good point. Mine was off balance when I did my 36 to 44 swap on the previous car. I think it was like $25 to get balanced, cheap insurance.
As far as the U-Joints I used the HD AC Delco non greaseable type, which are made by Spicer IIRC. The 1350 type for the halfshafts are p/n: 45U0123. Don't have the p/n off hand for the 1310 type for the drive shaft. The 1350's are $19.06 at Rockauto and the 1310's were around $13.

Best place/best price I ever got on these Spicer u-joints was from a "heavy truck" parts store. These are the best you can get, non greasable and well worth it.
When I replaced my u-joints a while back I called Spicer directly. They gave me the 5-800X and 5-786X part numbers. They also told me that an amazing number of heavy truck repair places are authorized Spicer dealers so I should just look in the local yellow pages for such a place to buy them locally. The first heavy duty truck suspension/repair place I called had the u-joints in stock. For an additional couple of bucks the truck place offered to remove the old joints, install the new ones, and check the shaft balances. I dropped off the shafts and went to breakfast. Went back an hour later and picked up the shafts all ready to be installed.
Spicer was the GM chosen OEM u-joint supplier for all of the C4 drive shaft and half-shaft u-joints according to the Spicer folks. The 5-800X units have an improved end-cap seal so they are "better or more durable against the outside elements affecting the needle bearings" and they are physically stronger than the C4 originals. They are the best you can get from the original GM supplier. You can't do much better than that.
