Default C5 brakes - adapter plates.

It seems to me that members of this forum recomended specifically one guys adapter plates to hold the C-5 brake calipers.

I know widowmaker is running a special right now over in the for sale section - but wjhat are my other options?

Just want to be sure I know my available options before I take the plunge!

Jeffvette also sells them. His are nickel plated and his bolt hardware is better.

Comparatively, the early C4 ones would be easy for most anyone to fabricate. The later ones are offset adding another critical dimension to be addressed should someone make their own.
The ones currently being offered by widowmaker are the most inexpensive I've seen yet, good for him. I've seen them at twice that price, that's too much.

Carl wants to know what his options are so I just thought I'd
mention seeing that supporting vendor Keith Vasilakes of Corvette
Engineering offered brackets a while ago. I don't know anything about
the product.

- 1988-1996 C5 brake adapter brackets available

I think the member Carl might be thinking about is Ed Salinas. However,
I am under the impression that Ed no longer offers brackets.

Then there is Gene284 of Electro-Dynamics, the fellow I bought my
plated steel brackets from four years ago. I am under the impression
that E-D pioneered the C5 adapter (if I happen to be wrong on this
I welcome supporting info that will set the record straight.) I am
pleased to say I remain a very satisfied E-D customer.

I have seen Jeffvette's in person and they are first class. I would not cut corners on something like brakes.. You get what you pay for.

Better how?
Our bolts are direct from fastenal right here in the US.
All our work is done on Autocad stations first and laser cut from ASA 50 rated steel. We also spend a rather large sum to be a supporting vendor each month here as well. If there is a problem with our kits, please let us know.

Chris,

Thanks for the compliments. We took a look at a number of different sets of brackets before deciding on our design that we were happy with. BTW the pdf diagram that many people reference needs a tiny bit of tweaking to be dead on. Without it you may end up with some caliper rubbing at times. Some have asked, "why not knock them out in cheaper aluminum or lighter grade steel? Why not use non US steel or have them made overseas for cheap?" Nope sorry. Not going there. Not interested. Someone else can do that.

I run these on one of my cars, the other has since moved onto a 6 piston setup last year. Many of my fellow club members have these on their cars, and their cars also go to the track. We are not interested in taking any risks with these.

Hence the reason we looked to the number one fastener company in the united states for the bolts. We have made a major investment to bring in a large lot of these at what we consider a very fair price for the investment in machine work, time, high quality steel, and the costs of being a supporting vendor here as well on several other forums. I hope that this helps everyone understand the level of concern, and quality that has gone into these.

If there are additional questions about the product or you have suggestions about how we might improve the product line, please don't hesitate to PM or email me. Thanks again to everyone who has made a purchase with us.

Paul (wdomkr),
I have sent you 2 emails asking you to give me an address to send a check and asking about application. I have no doubt as to the quality of your setup - however since you have not responded to my questions or requests I have ordered Jeffvettes setup.
I appreciate your commitment to the site being a sponsoring vendor and all - but in my personal experience with you, for whatever reason, I find your customer service lacking. I think it's an isolated instance - others seem to be happy with your service - I don't know if it's because I chose to use your e-mail account or what - but not recieving a response over the last 3 days convinced me to look elsewere!

Thank you

Carl,

My apologies if we missed any email from you. We have been making every effort to respond to everyones request for these. I did check our account and we did send you a note letting you know that we do prefer paypal for payments instead of check since it provides a trail for orders for us and you. It sounds like you never received it.

I apologize if you felt that we were ignoring you. We certainly weren't. Thank you for the feedback and I will double check with my team to make sure we are double checking on these in the future.

regards,

Paul

Paul I did get your e-mail - I hit the reply to button and sent off a request for a mailing address etc on Feb 27th. My email program shows it as sent - so I don't know what happened.

Carl,

Again, I cannot say anymore than we are very sorry to let you down on the response time in this case. I have been a forum member since 2000 and have already strived to provide the best responses to emails.

As supporting vendor we just didn't deliver on the response time for you in this one case. I am happy you found a a solution to your need and hopefully if we can help you in the future, your experience will be different. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

regards,

Paul

I just installed a C5 brake kit on my 85 from Vette Brakes & Products.

It came complete with treated slotted rotors, powder coated calipers, SS brake lines, hawk pads, and all the hardware to mount including adapters (must be used on the 84-87 cars).

I also had the rear calipers powder coated and went with new OEM pads there and SS lines.

The whole set up is sweet. I am also putting competition grey C6 wheels on the car so these large brakes will POP out from behind.

One interesting thing, the instructions said you can't use the regular saw blade (91-up) 17" rims. I have those as roll around stock on the car until I get it painted and running. I was worried I wouldn't be able to keep them on right now. The great news is they clear fine, but this is due to the early C4 requiring the ADAPTER/spacer. A 88-96 with this kit would have to get the A-mod (ZR1) wheels or other aftermarket to clear. That is a huge consideration as upgrading the brakes can result in a new set of rims if you are not paying attention to what you are getting into.

Wow...this must be an isolated instance! I know first hand that Paul goes above and beyond with customer service. We need to support our "supporting vendors" and you will be more than happy you did with Paul. Your loss this time around but my experience says this guy will never let you down!!
