We switched the opti out and before we start putting everything back together, we started the car and it idles rough but when you rev it sounds fine. Could this be the computer needing to relearn the timing? I really don't want to put all this back together to find out I didn't do something and have to tear it all back apart again.
I'm also getting a battery light but this sounds like a different issue. Thanks

Just a thought, be sure you you didn't break the connection on the temp sensor on the front of the water pump...or possibly you didn't plug it in. That would definitely affect driveablity.
I did break the sensor . I'm thinking because I didn't have the IAT or coolent temp sensor hooked up the computer can't set the right A/F and stuff. I also chipped the power steering pump pulley and need to replace it. What is the part number on that pulley. I'm getting a new sensor tomorrow but the parts store can't get a pulley.
If your TPS was disconnected, this may be causing your rough idle. Bit I wouldn't suspect your problem has anything to do with re-learning timing, as the ECM is in "open" loop mode and is getting its AFR from a pre-establised hardcoded lookup table.

A disconnected or broken temp sensor will affect the driveability BIG TIME. Once you get a new one in there, the car will run fine. I know this from experience cuz I broke mine while installing the camber brace and the car ran like ****!
My dad is working on it today, all the sensors except the coolant sensor are connected (have to buy a new one today) and I've changed the plug wires to new ones. I'm going to change the plugs also next week when I have time. The pulley is working so far so I guess we are going to leave it alone until something else happens. Thanks for the replies. They helped alot.

Number one - don't run it for very long without the waterpump.
Number two - check your spark plug wires, make sure they are tight. You did "burp" them? Make sure they are on the correct terminal.
When I did the opti on my 92 it started and ran fine without the coolant temp hooked up. I did have the MAP sensor connected. Only ran it a minute or so, then installed the waterpump.
Well, pulled it back apart today (for the 3rd time, funny how it gets alot easier) and found out that the gear was a tooth off on the opti so it was out of time. I got the gear in the opti right (this time) and hooked everything back up (with a new coolant sensor) and car is running fine. We are going to change the spark plugs soon but didn't want to mess with it today. I pulled the number 2 plug and it was pretty bad. The gap was .065. I regapped to .50 per the manual and put it back in for now.
I'm facing the replacement of the opti and water pump. I'm not for sure the Opti is bad and don't know how to be for sure but the pump has leaked so I'm not taking any chances while that far into it.
I had the Opti , wires and plugs replaced last summer. I guess if I replace the Opti and that wasn't the problem....I have a good spare...
Anyway....I going to be feeling your pain. Wish me luck.
I took some great advice from a fellow member by jacking the car up and getting underneath and tapping the back of the balancer in the center section while my dad was turning it by the crank bolt and it slid off pretty easy.
Good luck. The 3rd time we tore it down it only took 45min to change it. It was like a NASCAR pit crew.
