Default oil

I purchased low tension rings for a 350 that I sold a guy about 5 years ago, and all it did was smoke and use oil. As it turned out, the pistons had a compression ring groove as standard, and the oil rings were special and the oil grooves were not as deep. the ring manufacturer, Hastings said that the tensioners for the oil rings were wrong, I assembled it again and the same thing happened.
I tore it apart again, and went to a speed shop. They looked at the pistons, called Circle seal, and theyjust so happened to have a rep in the area who came over, and looked at the pistons.
They said that the rings should have been purchased from SRP because they make the special ring kit that fit their pistons.
Anyway, he took a piston, sent it back to his factory, and they came up with a set that fit the pistons perfectly. The engine is back together, has about 17,000 miles on it, and uses a quart at 4,000 miles.
