Are you talking about engine bearings? I've got a lot of things coated in my engine but the bearings ain't one of them. I've honestly never heard of it.

Yup.
I believe Calico is the big company that does it.

If they weren't too pricey then, I'd consider it the next time. I like all of my coated parts and believe all combined, they make a worthwhile contribution to overall efficiency.

If memory serves, it is 3 or 4 times the cost of the bearing to buy them coated. That is why I never tried them. I have a friend with more money than god and he used them because they are "the best".
He felt guilty installing anything less on his $2,100 crankshaft that he installed in a street driven only 383
ive heard of doing that. There is another name of a popular name (Ill post it when my brainlock goes away). Some of the ZR guys do that to their old bearings and swap them back in due to availability problems.
I dont know how thick the coating is or how it wears.

Swain Technology in N.Y. is another coating company for moly coat of rod and main bearings. I have used both them and Calico in N.C. for coatings, including ceramic and oil shed coatings on pistons and ceramic coatings on cylinder head ports and chambers. I consider the moly coat extra insurance as well as reduced friction when you are using high dollar parts such as 2000.00 cranks and 1200.00 rods whether street or strip. I feel in a case of possible oil starvation to bearings, it could possibly save your crankshaft. I run Hardblock half fill in my 396 LT4 stroker for street/strip and decided to use these moly/oil shed and ceramic coatings to help aid in reducing heat transfer to the oil side from cyl. combustion /exhaust temps in addition to a bigger Dewitt radiator for water temp control. I measured about a half thousand thickness per shell also. I used .001 over HX Clevite bearings on my new Callies pro magnum crankshaft and then had them coated, because the crank journals measured on the high side of the tolerance but was able to achieve .002 clearance for rods and mains.
