i changed wires, plugs, dist cap now it sputters but wont crank. checked fireing order 100 times lol. took a wire off and put a plug in it and it looks like its not fireing every time around. could this be the coil? i went with accel wires and plugs should i go with an accel coil as well? i love my vette bu is always something! lol please help.
P.S. after reading you guys response to other messages you guys are awesome!!!!
pull the coil, and make sure "button" that transfers the spark from the coil to the rotor is sitting UNDER the rubber insulating disk.
many people mistakenly install the insulator first, then drop the button in on top of it..
this creates a gap between the button, and the rotor.
make certain the button goes into the cap first, then the insulator disk goes over the button, with the spring going through it.
you would be amazed at how many times i`ve seen these installed improperly...
Haha ha ! Big Lee
I just did the same on my vette.
Thing is I overhauled the engine , put everything right , down to the last wire and vacuum line . started up good . Decided to change cap , rotor and coil , which was strangely behaving , wires too. You know , to make it safe , and it did not really slide . Lack of power . It was the center contact and ignition timing .
BTW , you have to turn off ECU when setting the timing That I learned too
You might want to watch out for the ignition module. Those things like to fail when a new coil is installed. I always replace the coil and module as a set.
