Default Hub or Lug centric?

So the guy building the tire/wheels for the bonneville racer wants to know if an 88 is hubcentric or lugcentric when it comes to wheel mounts - I am guessing lugcentric - anyone with more knowledge care to congratulate me on my insight or castigate my peanut brain?

How's that? Yes, the weight is born by the studs, not the hubs.

Although this picture is of JoBy's '86, I recall that my '89 hub is similar.

The shoulder on the hub here appears to be shaped as though it is intended
to bear loads from the centerbore of the wheel. This fits with my
impression that as a general rule North American OEM wheels/hubs are
designed to be hub-centric.

I am receptive to learning otherwise.

I was likewise under the impression that the C4 wheels are hub-centric. My 3/4 ton pickup is lug centric and the hub barely touches the rim (just for initial centering).

After a little research, it may seem to be hubcentric, yet i'm sure I could get a feeler gauge in between the hub and wheel center.

OK, I guess I need to get off my lazy butt and see what, if anything, my FSM says. I am saying the weight is born by the studs as the lug nuts are cone shaped and fitting into a matching recess on the wheels, and using lug nuts without the matching taper will allow the wheel to come loose, egg out the holes, crack or otherwise destroy the wheel, and wheel come offf the vehicle. Hubcentric wheels the lugnuts simply hold the wheel tight against the mating surface and cone taper is not nearly as important, just important that they exert sufficient clamping force and do not loosen. On the big rigs we work on everyday the best design hub piloted lug nuts actually have a tensioning (locking) bell washer built into the lug nuts. If the wheels are hubcentric and the hub is bearing the weight there can be NO freeplay between the hub and the wheel. I have seen both kinds on fairly recent vehicles, but I think the C4s are studcentric for all of the above.

Just checked the FSM (95) and it does not say.

I'll have to take a look at the backside of a wheel before I make a statement, I know someone got on my case for having the Weld Wheels on my car being that the Welds are definitely not hubcentric.
