What are the options? I know Doug Rippie motorsports makes a set that is supposed to bolt to your original cat back. It also costs >$900, jet hot coating is more.
I have heard that the Hooker Long Tubes for the L98 cars will work on an LT1, are there any clearance issuses, how much modding is needed to make it connect back to the exhaust? Emmisions legal is not a concern.
I will have long tubes on my car, they will be Jet coated, I just need to know how much money and trouble I'm going to be looking at. This should be my next summer project so I have a while, I just want to know what my options are. Shorties are NOT an option.

Re: LT1 long tubes (Nathan Plemons)
I've got the TPIS L98 long tubes on my LT1. They are super headers. Great fit and finish but you do have to do alittle fabrication to hook up the air tubes. Cost is under $800. Well worth it.
I went with the 2151 Hookers and had O2 bungs welded on them and got them coated locally. In their current form, coated with O2 bungs, it cost me around $550.
I can take some tonight as I just picked them up from the coaters yesterday. They are sitting on top of my hood (with the car cover on of course). Still waiting to pick up my motor from the builder .
There were at least 10 that do it locally in Dallas. I would imagine there is someone there local who does Ceramic coating. Maybe worst case would be a drive to Nashville.
Try http://www.Exoticmuscle.com I have a set of there LT-1 headders they are a work of art!!! fit and finish are exellent. They are specificly made for LT-1 vettes they have O2 bungs and EGR in place. Headders+jethotcoating+shipping+tax= $660 deliverd to my door. I love these things!!!(cant you tell?) :D You can also give Meryle a call at (480)967-4222. Your shipping may be cheaper than mine due to the fact that you live alot closer to texas than I do.
Check out the picture on my site under C4 exhaust. Those are the 2151-1(ceramic coated from Hooker. I have been selling about 2 sets a week lately.
PS. The 2149's are on sale right now. :) The 2151-1 are backordered.
Let me know if I can help.
i also went with exotic muscle long tubes, there great... no fit problems... exotic muscle also made them with no emissions... (there custom made)... good luck
I left the EGR selenoid attached to the back of the intake (drivers side)along with all the wires and vacuum lines that go to it. I blocked off, with a peice of sheet metal, where the exhaust gas enters the intake on the back of the intake on the passengers side and removed all the hosing etc. No Codes, No EGR. You can also simply turn off the EGR in the programming as well. On my shorty headers, I had caps on the EGR tubes.
I have been running my motors like this for almost 2 years now, and been passing emissions.
There may be other ways to do it, but this is how I did it and it works fine.
I also have the Exotic Muscle Longtubes, they fit great and cost me $670 coated and shipped to my door. I had the DRM's on order and after waiting 2 months I cancelled my order after they told me it could be another 2 months. I had the EM headers in 2 weeks (took that long cause they had to be sent out to be coated) and I can say thier customer service was great. You wont be dissapointed with them.
I opted for TPIS long tubes for my LT4 based on recommendations from others here on the Forum and my engine builder. For fit and finish they seem to be top notch. They do not come with collector flanges, though. The 3" collectors are just straight pipe for slip fit/weld/band clamp to the rest of the system. Seemed to make them easier to fit up close and personal on my car. Yeh, I need to get some pictures. :)
Performance wise, the judge is still out. I'm waiting to get my PCM back from Ed Wright before firing up the car for the first time with the new tubes. I added some Random Tech 3" bullet cats (primarily for noise control, not emissions) in front of my PowerEffects system. But I also had them make me up a set of test pipes... for off road use only, of course. ;) I'll eventually dyno it with and then without the bullet cats to see what kind of difference they make.
Has Hooker improved their ceramic coating process? Are they using JetHot coatings now? Just curious because I have a set of Hooker shorty ceramic coated headers that were bright and shiny when new, but in the space of a week turned dull grey. I have friends with TPIS headers that are a year or more old and they're still chrome-like.
