Default Mission Accomplished!

After the local dealership wanted to charge me anywhere from $400 to $1200 to replace my battery and positive battery cable, I am proud to say that I did it myself for $126.00. ($60/GM cable and $66/AC Delco Battery) Of course there was the opportunity cost of the seven hours it took me to complete the job, but it is well worth the satisfaction of knowing that I did it myself. Maybe now the dealer can actually look at the warranted starter that it was suppose to fix in the first place. Man, I can't believe those service managers work on commission! That's like putting a cop on commission!

I'm curious, why seven hours? I've replaced a battery, but not a cable. Is the cable APITA to replace?

This is the most insane price I have ever heard , $1200 to replace a battary and cable ??

There was another post about a dealer charging $800 for fuel injectors.
Chevy dealers are out to make alot of money. They go by the book rate.
Try to avoid them if possible, especially on easy jobs.

BTW, great job in doing it yourself and saving a ton of money !

Vic

Here's the story...I take her up to the dealership to get the starter fixed; I get a call from the dealer saying they need to replace the battery and positive cable (which by the way is a *****! to replace; especially with just enough room to get under the car and work, substandard tools, etc.) which will cost $1200. I said "WHAT! $1200 to replace a battery and cable!?". Then he said, "Oh, I meant $400, where did I get $1200 from?" I was thinking, yea right, if I would have said OK, then he would have done it for $1200. I still couldn't believe the $400 price so I went and picked her up and told the guy I would do it myself. However, I now understand the high price of replacing the cable now. I guess I'll keep taking her up there to get diagnosed, then bring her home to operate myself. :jester
