well i have magnaflows on my 96 lt1 and it sounds great..i would like alittle louder...and it sounds alittle to hallow..plus i just got them on today an the guy that installed them said give it a week or so to break them in...but i was guessing...should i go with x pipe or true dual exhaust...the guy said if i go with true dual it will be louder then it is now...an if i go wit x pipe it will give me low end torque an even the sound out...but he says the resionater already basically is an x pipe he said...kinda going crazy here thinking
the resonator is sorta an x-pipe. but a true xpipe will make it louder over the sound of the resonator.
but be careful, ok? if it gets too loud, the local cops will be hearing you... and that equals tickets. not everyone is as lucky as I was and worked for the cops...
on other thing, noise does not automatically = fast. The Audi R10 Diesel is the quietest race car on earth, will kick most any other sports racers ***... without making a sound.
oh, finally, the C4 cabin does not like noise. it will sound great outside, but drive down the highway, and the resonance and drone will kill you.
That is, only if you dont like resonance and drone. To me, it really doesnt bother me because I usually dont have anyone else in the car with me, and when I do, we dont talk that much. But, I am young so I can do these sorts of things and not care. I guess when I get older I will think the same way .
A cut-a-way of a resonator for the LT1 shown on an earlier thread shows that it is not an "X" pipe. The internal pipes in the resonator go straight from one end to the other and do not mix the exhaust gases. I am installing an x pipe from magnaflo to replace my resonator. Hopefully it will give a little better sound along with a little more low end torque.

thanks for everyones opinions...ment alot....well when i went to the muffler shop he said taken the resionater off would be pointless cause it acts like an x pipe...but i told him it goes straight thru and he said no...but i was the one that seen the pic lol..hmm this is tough for me...any one have video clips of these set ups?
I am trying to replace my resonator with a Magnaflow dual in dual out. pn/ 12469. It looks like a pretty good fit. I've heard that it also has an internal x-pipe design. But there is a crossover pipe in the rear of the exhaust system. Either way in a '96, and some one correct me if I'm wrong, but the the system is already true dual. The pic I saw of a resonator cut open showed the piped going in a little bit and the middle was just empty space. I am thinking that the Magnaflow will increase flow alot and reduce that hollow noise from the empty resonator. Ihad a Magnaflow on a Camaro and loved it. i agree that louder is not faster, so it's a matter of personal taste. Your money, your car, right?
btw the Magnaflow mentioned is 3" 5"x8" with 4" center to center on inlet/outlets. Pretty close to the resonator only flows through. Crossovers or x-pipes are the norm in dual systems. In a non dual system, the exhaust manifolds run into a y-pipe, the exhaust then flows in one pipe down the chassis, goes into a single inlet, dual outlet muffler. Or into seperate pipes into dual mufflers. The point is that the exhaust travels through one pipe. The LT1 exhaust is considered a dual exhaust.

You already have true dual, for the resonator, just put an x-pipe in there. That should make it louder, or muffler elims. The true dual systems I have seen would flow less then stock, they are small dia. and not mandrel bent. Yours is 2.75" dia. pipe if I remember right, most dual systems are 2.25". They are also not made for your car year, most of them anyways.

well ok i have another question.....do i loose any power doing a true dual or gain more power..and does it sound good....now with the x-pipe, do i loose or gain any power and does it also sound good(i know it gives you low end torque)...like i would like to know witch is better before i do it
