Default 86 VATS pin identification

Hi all,

I just toasted a 75 dollar VATS module trying to figure out the door lock arm / disarm pins. I actually like that smell but not when it's something important.

In order for me NOT to do this again, I'm gonna need some help mapping the physical pins to the schematic teminals. The 86 manual says that it's pins G and M (coincidence :-)). Pin M cancels or disarms the VATS and pin G arms it.

The problem lies in the fact that the VATS module is labled wit a completely different set of letters that don't correspond to the manual.

Can someone with power door locks and easy access to their VATS PLEASE tell me which pin numbers in my attached pic I should connect to? It would be the grey wire and the tan wire at the VATS pigtail.

Thanks to all who help in advance!!!
Lee

P.S. For reference, in this next picture , I would refer to the pins by number from left to right. I would consider pin 1 to be at the furthest left and pin 10 at the furthest right. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/86-87...spagenameZWD1V

Lee,
You really do need some help here. First you linked your picture to your local hard drive. That's no help to us. Second it seems you're majorly confused between the VATS and UTDS. On the '86 there is a separate module for the Theft Deterrent System and the Vehicle Anti-Theft System. You're talking about Power Locks and VATS and they have nothing to do with each other.

Tell us what you're trying to do and maybe we can help/.

Hi Ray, thanks for answering.

All of this is an effort to complete the upgrade on my car from manual to power door locks and to eventually be able to have a remote entry option added.

It's taken a long time so far but I pretty much finished the job and ran all the neccessary wiring etc. The door lock switches actually work and everything is great so far.

Now, I need to ditch the manual arming switches in the door and go to electronic arming and disarming because i would like to go to the next step of adding a remote entry system.

I looked it up in the FSM and in section 8A and on page 133 -0 there is an electrical diagram of the VATS and how it relates to door locks. The door lock switch when depressed should arm and disarm the vats using pins G and M. Tht's what I'm after. I hope this makes sense now.

Thanks again
Lee

P.S. The second link should take you to an ebay page with the VATS pictured.

When I tinkered with my 86, I believe the only two things that you have to work around in regards to the VATS is the following: the switch in the door cylinder and the lever switch that is riveted to the inner door panel. I believe Agent86 has done this conversion with a 'box' but not sure. I would think that a set of relays in line with these systems should be able to get you around the VATS. Others will chime in. Hope this helps.

Bob

Edit: If I remember correctly I left the mechanical switch on the door liner, to be cycled just like manual locks and then I got around the door cylinder wires, with relays. I also have a set of door wire harness for power locks if you are interested.

You shouldn't have to mess with VATS. It has nothing to do with door locks and arm/disarm for the theft deterent module. I'm heading back to work but will help in a couple of hours.
