Default She left me stranded!

When I was leaving work yesterday it seemed my gauges were not working. So I proceeded to make my way home. Then I noticed the temp gauge moving ( just a little. Since tuning the computer my temp stays at a little above 185). My volts guage was in it's usual spot. The oil temp and pressure gauges were still flatlined. So I started to hear tapping. I was on the side of the road in 2 seconds after I heard that.
Now I seems very apparent that my oil pump is gone. There are no fluid leaking from my engine. There was no smoke/steam coming from the engine nor was the engine unusually hot. I did a search but I could not find an R&R for the oil pump.

95 LT1 If anyone has a proceedure I would appreciate it.

As far as I know, you still have to pull the pan off to do a r+r on a oil pump. How many miles on the engine? Could something have plugged up the pick-up screen?

Step 1 Remove oil pan

Step 2 Remove and replace oil pump

Step 3 Replace oil pan

It's that easy...

I have been helping Joe via the phone today... I am going down there in the morning.

I find it so hard to believe that the pump died. I am betting more likely the drive or pickup failed.

These pumps are so very reliable... they are not prone to fail.

I am concerned that the system failed early on and he drove it quite a distance without oil... that's the scary part.

Wow, I would have done the same thing, in driving the car home until it totally freaked me out. Good luck, I would guess something electrical?

Since his oil pressure guage flatlined, that's an indication his oil pump did, in fact, fail. I wonder what caused it to tank, though?

there are two threads... they really should be merged. check the other one with the same title.

I don't think the pump failed. that is beyond rare.
