Now I'm really depressed If I spent 5 to 6 K on a paint job and it came out bad I would want to kill someone. But what to do? ALL my clearcoat is falling off. And I have NO time to do this kind of work myself. Guess the best thing to do would be to sell it and find one with good paint. Bought it for $5500.00 and am up to about 9K total, new tranny, glass, some interior stuff, weatherstrip. 92 vert with 90K on it, new top, nice stereo, runs great. If I could get back my investment might be a good idea.

NO WAY DUDE!! it isnt as bad as all that, hey, even a $200 paint job is better than what you got, and at a cheap price, you can afford to paint it every year! LOL. i just bought a 2 gun kit at wallmart for $50 it was the top loader type too, and the compressor is nothing special, i bought used, so say, for $500 you could get all the equipment (maybe cheaper) i know the guns are cheap, but should last for 3 paint jobs! i wouldnt use it for my job or anything, 2 base coats, and a bunch of clear coats, (there will be lots of wet sanding) because of the dust and stuff, but you can make shift a booth with long plastic, and an explosion proof fan to exhaust the fumes, and a cheap light to check for runs, and a good $25.00 book. if you dont want to, get the middle estimate, but it shouldnt cost no where near $10,000 unless you wanted a "SHOW CAR" then i would take it to FOOSE!!!!!!!!

You dont HAVE to spend big bucks....Id take a good look at the potential painters cars hes done. How long have they been sitting around? Are there dismantled cars collecting dust? Is the shop clean? I had a great job done on one car very reasonable and another I spent 10.4k on. Paint cracked on that one 3 mos later, so you never know.

If I had to do it all over again Id take a class and do it myself.

Heres a makeshift booth EZ up canopy and some home depot tarps....I wet down the entire backyard, used a fan. Frame came out perfect, not an ounce of orange peel and still looks mint 6 years later
Used a basic HVLP gun, they are cheap.

That's creative . I thought about building a small temporary paint booth for a project coming up.

Poor people dont own corvettes. Rich people own the new ones. We "cheaper class" people own the old ones.

I went to MAACO in Virginia Beach to get a price to paint my 76. I wasn't changing colors and the car didn't look that bad to start. The guy came out to look at the car and says " only the manager can quote a price to paint Corvettes and they start around $5000.00". The attitude these people had was so bad it would keep me from ever going back, I would rather go to Earl Scheib.

Serious...I went to an earl scheib after A MAACO owner turned me away...basically he said they can paint the Vette, just vette owners are so picky they wont be able to do the job for the money spent they want.

Back to ES,I walked in the shop and looked around...seen a few cars being sanded down with an orbital sander to scuff the paint and right next to the cars,a guy was spraying paint onto another one.Nice mix eh?Fresh paint with paint dust taking out any light left in the shop.It was dark and hazy in there!

The cars done outside had so much peel and flash it looked like a spray can job.I really did LOL and walked away..I wouldnt give them the honor to even drive my crappy car in their lot!It was hilarious to see how bad the cars were looking and not being able to see your reflection in paint dust dried paint was even funnier.

MAACO's are independantly owned and operated, some are good, some suck. I was shoppinfg to have my car painted last year and one of the guys I work with kept bugging me to check out a MAACO he's used. I kept ignoring him. Couldn't find a shop that I wanted to let touch my car and the quotes were all over the place. I finally took my car there and the owner of the business was a vette owner. He's the only one who took any time to explain to me the prep involved in properly painting a Vette. My car was painted there and took a first place at the Houston Chevy and Corvette Expo!.

Very strange, i got my 95 painted @ MAACO for $2,000.00 it was there signature series top of the line. Along with two coats of clear coat and a cut and buff. I have no orange peel, it looks like a pool. Plus they installed all new weather stripping.

Damn I wish I had A digital camera, might go buy one just for this....

go back to this guy and tell him he's FULL OF S#$T.......
