Man, I could'nt believe it ! I went to MAACO to see about having my Vette Painted. My paint is starting to flake. Idamn near dropped when the owner stated that Vette paintjobs start at 10 thousand. And that was for a basic paint.
Theres a really good Maaco about 20 min. from my house. They painted my Buick over 3 years ago and it still looks good. Not to mention I didnt do any prep work and they didnt either. They said they could paint my vette for about $800 (2 base, 1 clear). The paint on my vette is starting to flake badly as well.
What i'm trying to say is thats its not bad to take your car to Maaco, but you need to do your own prep work and find a good one. Check out some of the other cars the shop has done and talk to people about their experience with that particular Maaco.
Of course its not going to be a show quality finish but not bad if you ask me.
well true they might not have wanted to paint it due to the fact corvettes are one of the hardest cars to paint due to the static charge that they accumulate due to their SMC bodies. I painted a 2003 Torch Red vette a few weeks ago, and tell you what, if you have a hair fall off of your body within 15 feet and it will go straight to the car, and one you start clear coating there is really nothing you can do about it, i even had the car grounded out with chains.
Maaco is also not a good place to get a paint job, i'm not trying to bash them, yet they can only afford to pay hourly, about 11-15 dollars per hour, so they dont get good painters, and their materials are sub-par. At the end of the day if you want it done right you will have to pay.

That sounds like a folk song Sambo would sing, "he wanted to stick it in your ******* real deep like 10 thounsand deep-deep in the jungle and put a good pounding on you."

Around here Maaco is not the greatest place to get a car painted.

Sounds like he didn't want the job. I checked with a fairly high-end body shop before I bought my 94 (which turned out to not need any body work at all) - manager said they would media blast, prime, paint, and clearcoat for around $6,000.
my advice is if you paint it yourself, in your garage, is to use a couple extra coats of clear so you can sand out all the rough dirt, hair, bugs etc., that way it will look smooth, and be smooth to the touch even though there is stuff in it. Good Luck!
