It's how we get experience and become better. These types of projects are fun too

I did the "hole in the front bumper" route as well.

I just put either the plate of the cover on it when I drive it on the street.

Not bad for a first time. But you ought to try again, quick! Haha, just joking. I have made many uglier things in the name of fun and I've been just as proud of them.

I think it would look/function better if you just removed the entire cover and came up w/ some kind of air-inlet attachment? that would fill the gap. Once you have that done, you could just do a bit of touch-up painting inside where needed.

FWIW..If you figure it out let me know cuz I have the SLP on mine too and wouldn't mind drawing in some cooler air from there....and the one's they sell are just waaay too much money.
JEFNLSA,

If I could figure out how to post pictures here I have 4 photos of a simple and very inexpensive mod for the SLP claw intake.

Any help posting pics would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, you got me thinkin'. I've been running without a front plate since forever.

Maybe I'll remove the filler panel, cut a duct opening, then make a bracket for my plate. The trick part will be to make the plate braket flip open to allow air flow. Maybe springloaded or electric.....

Whadda ya mean officer, my front plate is right here. See.

Don't let anyone discourage you ... best way to learn is try small projects like this.
And read, read, read....

A good fiberglass fabrication site (body panels, speaker boxes, etc.) is here.
http://www.fiberglassforums.com/index.php

Some really cool video's of a guy making molds and parts here.
It really shows the process
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSfftRVKwYY

P.S. you have to sit thru a little political statement at the beginning of the video's? But fiberglass part is worth the weirdness...

dude use your other one to make a mold! cover it up in something, maybe like plastic wrap. Then just put a layer or 2 of glass strips on it, resin hardner... let it dry, pull off and then use it to cast your real one, at least then it will be all smooth like the original and you can shape it out in the middle!

Maybe wax paper would work

ya something that the heat from the chemical reaction wouldn't have an affect on and would peel off with no resistance. Better than droppin like 40-50 bucks on a new one.

Just the scoop isn't so bad, I didn't pay that much for it a few years ago. The tube and air box are like $400. For a tube!
