made from fiberglass, i covered the original with foil, applied two layers of fiberglass sheets then covered it with the resin glue, cut, shaved, sanded, painted, and then cut hole in middle and glued a screen, this thing has lowered my temps by 3 degrees..i have tested both, trust me..i could have done a better sanding job but i was excited to get it in
So is this just a hole that goes to were your original air box is located? so that your intake can get fresher air??? Im going to make one too! Sorry but Im jacking your idea before you get a paten.
I have the A/O scoop, it's something similar. The kit has a tube and different lid and costs a ton. What I did instead of the kit was drill a large hole toward the air filter, then cut the stock lid and bend it down into a scoop for the air.
I thought of making a scoop like that to but have so many other projects going on.
i think just the new opening in the plate is 185. and then the whole kit is 500..no thanks, i spent about 45. and about 3 hours and i was done...yeah its just an opeing going strait towards a SLP intake..i have a tube going threw so air has a path..
yeah its my first fiberglass job, lol..be nice, im sure if we had a time when we could tint windows ill beat you and if u wanna redo my plate its fine with me...
I think it would look/function better if you just removed the entire cover and came up w/ some kind of air-inlet attachment? that would fill the gap. Once you have that done, you could just do a bit of touch-up painting inside where needed.
FWIW..If you figure it out let me know cuz I have the SLP on mine too and wouldn't mind drawing in some cooler air from there....and the one's they sell are just waaay too much money.
well i didnt ruin anything from the front end and the original plate is in my garage...but its the fact that cooler air is getting slammed right over ur air filters...sounds good to me, specially how i know its soo hott in the engine area.....well i will redo it, and make it look like the ones u buy, that first one is about 6 months old and time for a redraw
thanks, ill trade ur dog for my plate??? striat trade i wont even make u pay me .......LOL.....jk,,but thanks, i think im going for something differant looking,,, MORE air too

I like the far away shot better.
It seems like it didn't hold it's shape well. The fiberglass should lay down flat without an issue if you have something sturdy behind it. Something this size you could cure in your oven. I'd give it another shot before trying to build that one up and sand it smooth. You'll just end up with air pockets.
Also consider just getting a replacment cover from someone and cutting it up.
And look at NACA ducts. the size of the opening can be much bigger than the size of the duct, this will cram more air in there and increase air pressure.

If that inlet is a straight path to your SLP Claw do you run the risk in heavy rain of soaking the filter elements and potential water intrusion into the engine?
I ask because I am thinking of doing something similar but my car is a daily driver in a very rainy part of the country
Hah, what a coincidence, I had just thought of how it would be a good idea to cover the stock metal airbox with foil, fill up this foil mold with fiberglass, and use the fiberglass to replace that heavy metal box.
