Default Corsa

I picked up my Corsa cat back system yesterday, I was looking over the clamps that come with it and wondering if it would be advisable to use some sort of muffler cement when clamping them on? Or does someone have any other useful advise?

Thanks, John

I installed the Corsa cat back on my 91 last fall, and it works great. Used the clamps provided and followed the instructions and torqued the clamps before running and after. I have heard that if there is a problem the best way is to have the unit spotwelded. But I would go with the just the clamps until a problem exists.

Good Luck, Polo

Put mine on last week and no problems. Easy to install too.

I've had the Corsa on for two years now. All I ever did was tighten it up a little after it went through a couple of heat cycles. I've taken it off several times for various reasons and have never had a leak problem. If you use the cement it will be harder to take off and put back on without creating some leaks.

no muffler cement, if it leaks you can buy wider flatband clamps but it should not leak. They sell a quality product and for the money it should be.

B&B has the same clamps and they just didn't do the job for me. I had a guy that is great with S/S welding spot weld it while it was on the Vette, aligned perfectly, and then I removed the whole system and finished the welding of all the unions, just like the OEM cat back. Makes taking it off easier and it looks better than the clamps.

Thanks for all the replies, is there a gasket between the back of the Catalytic convertor and the first pipe going back?

There's no gasket on the outlet of the catalytic converter, the connection is a ball and flange type.

Also, I noticed slight exhaust leaks where the clamps are when I installed the Corsa's on my "91" L98. I sprayed windex around each clamp and saw the leaks.

I also, wanted a cleaner look so, I had a muffler shop remove the clamps and weld each joint. looks a lot cleaner now.

Thanks for the reply, I'm hoping for no leaks but if it needs welding it will get welding!

Just make sure they use S/S rod or you'll have a rust prone joint.

I've had the Corsa on mine for 3.5 years, and it always loosens up and gets louder after a while. Have redone the clamps several times, and had the entire system off once.

The next time I take it off I will use some kind of sealer on all the joints. Was thinking to use high-temp RTV.

It took a couple of hours, mind you I have air tools and the car sits on a four post hoist. Does it sound sweet and looks even better! I was quite surprised that the old exhaust, 19 years on, came off as easy as it did! No leaks and I'll retorque the clamps after it has cooled off. Now it's time for a high flow cat!!!!!!!!!
