First Post ... Need Help ... 94 Won't Fire Up
I just bought a 1994 last week after selling my 1983 Monte SS. The 94 Vette is a stock LT1 with 71,500 miles. It was well cared for, but the engine compartment was unkempt. So today I decided to detail it out.
I was very careful with the degreaser and rinsed everything down with water. Then air dried it with a air pressure hose. Then I applied aerosol engine detailer after covering up the belts and distributor.
After I was all done (and it looks much better), guess what? It won't start. It will turn over freely and a couple of times it seemed to almost backfire (like one cylinder tried to hit), but the majority of the time, it doesn't even have an illusion of a spark anywhere
I pulled one spark plug and it seemed to be OK. I was hoping that something just got wet and after it dried out, all would be well. No such luck as it is still not starting or firing tonight.
So it’s time to jump into CorvetteForum and ask for help on the first day that I have registered. I already got some good info on checking codes. I did the paper clip deal and all I got was a C12 code and everything else was blank. It did end up with a “1.0” left in the odometer slot after it was all done … not sure what that means.
Anyway, sorry for the long post and I for my first one I wish it was with better circumstances. But does anyone have any ideas for where I might look to get the engine fired-up? Did I do a bad thing with the water or detailer or degreaser? Could something come unplugged or soggy? Any help is appreciated.
So now I am faced with lots of choices:
1) Replace myself ... How much time and agony is invloved?
2) Have it done ... What expense should I expect for labor?
3) What brand of optispark distributor should I go with?
I would greatly appreciate any/all advice on all three questions from those who have experience.
Thanks!
