Dynaspark people have been putting me off for 2 months now with "We're going to get inventory soon..."
If they are this difficult to believe before the sale, how could you trust them to be of any help if you had service issues? No thanks, I don't care how good they are.
make sure if you have the splined shaft turning the opti, that you line the flat on the splined shaft up right and do not force it. also do not use your opti screws to pull the opti to the motor. it should slide easy into the timing cover and the opti should slide easy on the other end of splined shaft. do not force.
I know this thread is old but owners need optis on a regular basis.
I'm pretty sure mine is oil soaked so here we go.
I would put new on if the price wasn't too bad but prices are all over the place on these units.
The DELCO units are as good as the others unless you just want the name but who sells a quality rebuild complete with module cap and rotor.
Also no one said anything about seal replacement ?
Need a special tool to extract old one ?
Going into it next weekend cause I miss my 383 monster.
I noticed a oil leak up front and should have parked it right away but if your seals are good you don't have a problem.
I'm sure the OPTI is a good unit and everything fails with time and seals in particular.
I ain't skeered of them and unless you plan on going over 7,000 their alright don't waste the bucks!
Upgrade the Opti. MSD is very nice and has worked out the original bugs. If you upgrade to a 95-96 unit, take your time and install correctly. The Opti is very sensitive to RPM and fitment. The dowel pin from the camshaft, for example, has to go in a specific distance too. Install is fairly straightforward.
I use a DELTEQ, and LTCC is very nice. There are many options if you have a little patience.
