Default Coolant mix correction

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1569860

This was my thread from several months ago when I blamed mixing coolant types for the mess I found in the radiator. My coolant was dark and gunky with a great deal of sediment. I am more confident now that the color and content was leak sealant.

After flushing and refilling a few times over a few thousand miles, I have managed to remove nearly all the color and sediment. Of course, I have now learned why there was so much stop leak in the system when I bought the car. I have a leaking heater core and will join that fraternity when the weather cools. For now, I have bypassed the core because we are looking at 90+ days for the next couple months here in the Central Valley of CA.

I feared that I might have a leaking core for some time and have regularly checked the carpeting for dampness. My symptoms first appeared as a thin oily "fog" on the windshield that the defroster didn't easily remove, then "clouds" or "fog" coming out of the vents when the AC was on, and last, coolant leaking onto the passenger side floor board.

Anyway, I did want to offer the correction and perhaps help someone foresee the inevitable from similar symptoms.

Its your heater core. While you have the summer, start now to aquire the tools you will need to replace it. Learn from my mistake and test the new heater core first (I am sure you can imagin why, don't make me relive it). I also recommend that you get a GM replacement part not an aftermarket.
