diagnostic question
I have an 87 coupe 4+3 manual. Lately when I drive the vette and coast by putting her in nuetral, the rpm's drop to 0 and the car dies. The service engine light and battery lights come on. Once i stop, i restart her and keep right on going. I have no idea what might be causing the car to die when i shift into neutral. She is fine when in gear and she starts up fine, any ideas?

Air, fuel, or spark. What goes away when it dies? The service engine light is supposed to be on with the ignition on and the engine not running, but it doesn't cost anything to check for codes.

When i shift from gear to neutral, the rpm's drop from 13 to 8-7 (usual) then to 5, 2 and 0, then the lights come on and i have to restart. The engine runs great while in gear, she races to 90 on the fwy without and problems, but once i go to neutral, bam, engine stops running.
