Default 84 to 87 wheel offset

Am I reading the threads correctly, You need a spacer to get the correct offset into a 88 to 96 wheel to make it work on a 84 to 87???

Yes, you need a spacer. +38 is your offset and +56 is the newer. So basically a 18mm spacer would properly space the wheel in the wheel well.

18 millimeters = 0.708661417 inches

Does that mean yours will stick out ~0.3 inches than factory specs?

Are all 85 corvettes 38 mm offset (both Z51 package and non z51 package)?

This would be alot easier than looking for a 3/4 spacer. Plus, 1/4 inch out will fill out wheel well better, more aggressive looking. Correct if I am wrong, but z51 or not have same offset. Different spring rates, sway bar sizes, shock rates, steering ratio is tighter, and I think the wheels were and inch wider. Not sure about the last one.

Yes Z51 also has the same offset, just wider wheels.

With the 1" spacer, did you have to replace the wheel studs with longer ones???

The spacers (at least mine) are countersunk where the studs bolt up.

Did you guys get 1" spacers all the way around?

I bought the C6 rims to put on my 85 and am thinking 1" in the front, and 1.5" in the back, any suggestions?

Z51 and base model do NOT have the same offset for 84-87. Z51 have less offset but are wider so they stick out further.

1.25" adapters are ideal for 8.5" wheels with 56mm offsets.
.75" adapters are ideal for 9.5" wheels with 56mm offsets.

Width is as important. If you put a wheel with the same offset but 1" wider, it'll stick out 1/2" more.

Now to make it more fun, 1" adapters won't work with some aftermarket wheels, because the stock studs are 1.125" long and will stick out and interfere with the wheel. OEM wheels have casting pockets there and don't have this problem. Also, some replacement bearings come with even longer studs, which would have to be replaced with stock length ones to use even a 1.25" adapter.

Central, good to know. I should add, AFS/OE Reproductions and of course as Central mentioned, OEM have these holes.

Tmetti, the poster asked about 88-96 wheels. So yes, 1" would work for him, for you, I have no clue what the sizes and offsets are for the c6 so I have no clue.

Ok, so I'm trying to put on C6 OEM wheels 18's and 19's (pulled off a 2005) on my 85.

The new wheels have Offset +54 (18 inch Wheels x 8.5 ) • Offset +79 (19 inch Wheels x 10)

Currently I have stock on an 85...I just got this car and do not know if I have the Z51 package, I'm guessing I'd know if I had it, so lets assume that I don't. I either have the 34 or 38 mm offset, what size wheel adapters do I need in the front and back to make them fit?

I referred to this forum and he used 34 and 38 mm spacers, which are 1.33" and 1.5" (front and back respectively). Does this sound correct, or is this one of those things that I will have to mount the wheel and measure? Any help is greatly appreciated, I', looking to order spacers today! Thanks.

OEC does not have these holes.

They have some divots there from their casting markings, but they are not even the same size or in the right spot.

All they will do is deceive you into thinking it'll clear when in fact you'll have loose wheels.

I know this because I had to take a grinder to my wheels to make them work with 1" adapters, I got tired of shortening class 12 hardened studs.

That sounds about right. But you don't need to get it on a nats ***. Plus or minus a 1/4 inch is fine. I'd do 1.25 front, 1.5 rear. If you can't find 1.5, just do 1.25 all the way around.

Yes, you have to space the wheels out about an inch or your wheels will set in and possibly rub when you turn corners. It makes them look nicer too. I bought mine on ebay. About 50 dollars a pair.

Thanks guys, I ordered some adapters today, 1.33" in the front, and 1.5" in the back. I went over to Discount Tire (Midwest Name), and they said they wouldn't deal with me if I brought them wheel adapters, sheesh, then he gave me a long speel about how I am going to see my wheel pass me on the highway. Well I already bought the wheels and adapters, now I just need to find me a reasonably priced tire!
