Default Headers for L98

I am not looking for anything flashy, just for something functional. I am installing a magnaflow exhaust system (in some capacity) on my 1989 L98 C4, I am just looking for a set of inexpensive black headers to install on the car. Biggest bang for buck..... wheres the best place to buy from?

Spend a few more bucks and get the Hedman Elite's. They are coated and are a lot less than the other guys.

I love hookers.

As far as headers go, I like Hooker headers too. I run 2151s. They made a huge difference on my stock 350, ran great on my fully modded 350, and still run great on my 412.

Don't get painted headers, get something with a ceramic coating inside & out. You'll be glad you did.

It will help keep the underhood temps lower.

Here's a comparison between Hedman Elite's and Hedman Street headers- 2 differences: Flange Thickness and Primary Tube gauge.

http://store.summitracing.com/compar...4294918680+115

I'm looking to get a set myself; anyone know what difference these two measurements make?

What needs to be done to accomodate for the lack of AIR fittings? Besides AIR, will they bolt right up to a stock 85? I assume a new Y pipe is needed? What else?

Sorry if I hijacked your thread Dan!

The Elites have thicker flanges which reduce warping, the tubes are thicker which makes them last a bit longer.
The stock Y works fine with the Elites, just cut the Y back and weld on the collector adapters.

No, thats quite alright, those were my next questions anyway!

Great thread guys,... thanks for the info,

To date, I did not yet order the magnaflow cat back... I am not thrilled with the price to be totally honest and I would like to upgrade the cats and the piping setup. This may cost more in the long run but I think the results will be better...

I would like to get the headers, I am thinking about the streets - the price is great. If not the streets the elites are my next choice. Will need collectors, Catco High Flow Cats, small X-Pipe, and then magnaflow wide opens (I think those are the ones included in the cat back) out to LT1 tips.

I waited for months on the Heddman Elites to no avail, so I bought Hooker LTs instead. I've had no problems so far...

Or forget the headers and go with this www.corvettecentral.com part # 324146.
True duals with bullet cats and OEM style dual outlet Magnaflows, will flow more than you will need for 350 CHP, and you don't have to screw with the headers. These have the LT tips and the entire exhaust will cost under $600. Buy the bullet cats on eBay.

I believe that Melrose t-tops still has the headers that I used to have.
They have small scratches on them but, they will give you a killer deal on the best headers made of the L98. They also have all of the emission tubes and stuff on them. Give them a call and I have pics if you want them.

Its not difficult, just a little bit time consuming. Took me about 5 hours to remove my old manifolds and get my hedman elites back in.
