Your right, you can get G8 or 10 bolts & lock nuts and do the job yourself, my cost was $8.00 to lower the rear... sorry don't have the size available right now.

The kits use a 9/16" bolt which is a rare size, and nobody will carry metric bolts that big. Even if they did, hardware stores I've checked only have bolts up to 8".
5/8 won't fit through the bushings.
I would just get the kit, you could waste more money driving all over town looking for a place that carries them, plus it comes with nyloc nuts, those are worth at least a few bucks.
And be aware that trying to use a nyloc nut on the stock bolt
is a recipe for trouble eventually.
The nut will be located below the cotter pin hole in the bolt shank.
The hole greatly reduces the tensile strength and several posts
have mentioned bolts that have broken due to the practice.
