I have a '93 and my Mechanic says the Computer is bad. GM does not make them anymore and I can't find one at any Dealership. I also can't understand , if I can find a used one , why it can't be installed in my car??? I was also told it could be rebuilt , but if the Chips are bad , I can't get them replaced either. They say that they aren't available. SO , What am I to do???
first is he talking about the ecm or ccm ,the ecm is the computer that control the engine. and any ecm from a 93 will work the ccm is what controls stuff like vats interior lights theft etc, if you are sure he knows what he doing might find one on ebay. but there is a lot of things that can make you think the ecm is bad not much help but maybe someone will chime in geo. as far as the chip you can get a custom chip and it will work
Ireplaced my computer on my 94 LT-1 ABOUT 4 months ago my mechinic found me a used one for $400 the dealer wanted $1800 if you need I can get you his number. What is the reason you need to replace it.
It started with the 2nd trip I took after buying it. I would lose the Tach and speedometer , for couple seconds. Car would jerk and then take off. Service light would come on. This has happened each time car was driven. Then it quit completely on highway. Waited a couple minutes, started it and tach and engine would go from zero to off board and die. Mechanic said computer was shot.

Well, something is wrong for sure. It *could* be the BCM (body control module). It *could* be the ECM. (electronic control module i.e, the 'computer'). Or it could be another problem. I'd try a different mechanic first, one with experience with these cars. A dealer wouldn't hurt.
