Get your block reconditioned and some nice GM Aluminum D heads (do you have iron?). Block should need at least a hone job...at the most, rebored. Resurface the block. Recondition the crank, some new bearings....new rings....Whamo! You end up with the original engine, remanufactured, and it will be the ORIGINAL motor. Valuable if you consider resale. IMHO

Oh yeah, one more thing, my Toyoter has 250,000 miles and no blue smoke. Wish the Vette could do the same. :smash:

If you want new and you're going to stay with the L98, I think you're looking at $3,000 to $4,000. Scoggins-Dickey still lists the L98 short block for around $1200. Current L98 heads (and for what its worth, they're made in Canada) are $400 to $500 apiece (check with a couple of Dealers though as you may be able to beat this price). They're also counterbored for an intake gasket with built in retainers (the old ones will work, the new ones just make installation a lot easier). They use self aligning rockers so you might want the pushrods designed for them along with new rockers. The stock roller cam is $200 and change at JEGS (I believe it comes with the lifters). You will need a timing chain and and I 'd think you'd want to replace the oil pump and balancer. From there, you'll have to decide on how many of your existing parts can be reused: timing chain cover, starter, water pump, oil pan, injectors, flex plate (or flywheel), sensors (particularly the knock sensor if it's never been out of the block), etc; and there's always the valve covers, runners, injector rails (not a bad idea to change out the seals), fuel pressure regulator and distributor (you'd probably want to install a new gear) along with all of the necessary gaskets, bolts and tuneup parts.

Thanks Rick86! I will call them in the A.M. I noticed that they are fairly new.
What kind of experience have you had with them?
Thanks again Rick86! I was hopeing that I was going to find someone local.

I have had them trouble shoot my car twice when I couldn't determine the problem. They actually are not new just at a new location. I haven't heard anyone say anything bad about them and I'm picky about letting other people work on my car and Corvette Care is the only place I'll let work on my car if I can't do the repair myself.
