Muffler Question
I'm rebuilding my 1994 LT1 into a deep-breathing 383, 58mm, 30#/hr fuel injectors, etc. I'm re-working the exhaust to reduce restriction. After the 1-3/4" long-tube headers, I presently plan to go into 3" collectors, followed by a new muffler I found. It's a Walker Dynomax Ultra Flo X, which is a straight-through "X"-pipe embedded in a fiberglass-packed muffler case. The pipes will be 3" in and out. From there, I plan to re-use the OEM 2-1/2" pipes feeding into the OEM mufflers, WITH cutouts to bypass the OEM mufflers to a second set of tailpipes (roughly-similar concept to the new Z06). There will be no cats, as the car will be titled as a 1970 (street rod).
My questions: I have assumed the original resonator (just behind the cats) is sufficiently restrictive that I would want to replace it (since I am deleting the cats); am I correct? Does anybody have any experience with the Dynomax Ultra Flo X? Thanks in advance!
