Default Todays Corvette Drama

So, I must say, the only thing that continues to drive me to work on this car is that fact that I love it. Its actually a love hate relationship... love driving it, hate spending money on it.

So far this month I have installed... (on my 89 Vette)

Heddman Jet-Coated Street Headers
Full Length Magnaflow exhaust
Oxygen Pump Delete
EGR Delete
VKE Remote Keyless Entry
New Emergency Brake
Fixed the tailight bulb holder
Cruise Control
New Bosche O2 Sensor
and a few other Misc Parts

So, now for the problems I still have to fix, some of which I am beginning to think I caused...

Right around the time the O2 pump was deleted the idle began to bounce around when I come to a stop. For example... I am rolling down a hill in neutral and come to a stop. The car bounces from 700RMP to 500RPM almost stalls and then jumps to 900RPM and then Idles perfectly at 700 like it should. Does this every single time. I'm thinking something like idle air controller... do I even have one? What do you think...

Also, I had a buddy of mine set the fans down to turn on at 180*F. Worked perfectly until I did my recent mods. Now as soon as I turn the car on the fan kicks on????

Oh, and this problem is driving me nuts. I plan to do some engine work mid-winter, so for now I relocated the alternator inbetween where the O2 pump would have been and the Alt used to be. Well this dam thing keeps bending 1/4 in steel brackets. Does anyone have any pics or know where i can get a setup to mount the Alternator cleanly. I am not interested in the O2 pully junk.

Ok so what do you think of todays Issues?

Default idle

idle on mine was hunting oie that, and I disconnected the esc. it made the computer pick a default. threw a code, and was rock steady. I changed out the esc, and all is well.
Now as far as the rise in rpm to 90-0, it sounds like that is like mine just after I start it, and it goes through the evap cannister purge.
you might be getting a cold start sequence because of a loose wire to the ecm or something from the cts.
it sounds like your car is flip flopping from open loop to closed loop

Ok, did a seach and found people who gutted their air pumps which is unfortunately no longer an option because mine is somewhere in a land fill. The next option appears to be a pulley that goes in place of the air pump. Are there any there options I should know about. I'm not totally thrilled about adding another pulley. But if I have to obviously I will... my ideas sure aren't working out any better.

As for the vacuum leaks... I don't think its a vacuum leak,... when its in the driveway it idles just fine. Its only on startup and when I come to a stop while rolling in neutral.

I decided to clean the throttle body today... figured it couldn't hurt. No improvement. I also disconnected my MAF and started the car... no improvement.... and oddly enough, no check engine light... hummmm,...?

What two pins to I have to connect to throw codes or test the MIL. I have reason to believe it may have been connected.

Default IAC Test

Looking at the sensor's connection with the clip catch pointing up its:

The top left pin is "A" (red)
The top right pin is "B" (black)
The bottom left pin is "C" (green)
The bottom left pin is "D" (yellow)

You need to pull codes - you have something going on there that is making the fans run instantly - your staying in open loop and they are doing what the fan is supposed to do - with all of the crap you did you might have left or damaged the connection for the coolant temp sensor at the front of the intake.

As for you not wanting to use a Air Pump delete pulley, look at what you have been experiencing "keeps bending 1/4" steel" .

I think you nailed it when you said

Fan kicking on like that had the same problem .Turned out the AC connector was unplugged for some reason.

They can be money pits. There was nothing wrong with mine, decided to check a thing or two in the name of preventative maintenance. One year and 3k later it started the other day. Still on stands, though.

The "while Im at its" are a **** to combat.

Why not build your own a/p delete pulley? I did and made it to set lower than the ones you buy. It has a couple hundred hard miles on it with no issues whatsoever. On top of that I only have maybe $50 invested in the pulley, steel used to build it, and stainless bolts. I've included a pic.

Oh, LOL rain huh?

Im going to take alot of heat for this one

Picture was taken from my cell phone out of the 96 Impala,... Girlfriend in front driving the vette...

Be easy guys, storm caught us off guard on a trip, infact we had to get a room for the night at some sleezy hotel because the Impala kept getting stuck...go figure.

I don't mind working on it,... if I didn't have anything to do on it I would be bored anyway. It does get expensive though and always at the worst time....
